Texas Emissions Test

Hey everyone. Looks like I might be moving to Texas pretty soon and I heard they require emissions testing. Right now I have an ETS Test Pipe and ETS Extreme Catback. I know I’ll have to get another setup, but I was curious to see if anyone here had any experience. Would a HFC and ETS V2 pass? Any help is appreciated.

I passed with no cat with my evo 8. The resonator looked like one, so they put it on the machine.

Doubt it will pass without a catted test pipe / retune and make sure you don't disable any 02 sensors, that will fail you down here.

On the plus side, if you're moving close to Houston you'll be able to have your EVO worked on by the best in the business - Kozmic Motorsports - they do awesome work with the EVO

I don't have a catted test pipe and pass every year. There is no visual inspection or tail pipe sniffer. They just check to make sure all the sensor are "ready" and that there are no CELs. So don't disable the sensors like Napalm said. I have my rear O2 attached to the test pipe via the vibrant "J" shaped fitting. This has kept the CEL from coming on.

I think in Texas it's gonna differ from county to county. When I lived in the larger cities like Dallas and Austin I had to pass emmisions - but moved a little farther out in the country towards Waco and no longer had to.

I think they're just gonna do a visual / sensor check for you. Should be good.

I have a similar set up, straight ETS exhaust, from downpipe, catless test pipe and catback... been driving the evo for mor than 2 years here in Dallas. Never had problems with emissions testing, passed both of them. No visual inspections here. For as long as you’re properly tuned and you have the O2 sensors that will eliminate CEL, you’re be in good shape. One of two emissions test I had on the evo was even done at a Mitsubishi dealership...

Oh, and I had to add, for as long as they would not put your car on a lift and see what’s underneath, you’ll be ok..

Thanks for the info everyone. Don’t have any CELs so hopefully I’ll be good without having to change the setup.
