MR = awesome

I think the most important thing with the MR is not overheating the transmission. EVER. It is ridiculously easy to overheat the SST and that is what sets the bad dominoes into motion. There isnt much to so called tuning the SST it's more about getting the ECU airlfow and load values on target so the transmission knows what's up. There isnt some magic table just for making the SST run like butter. With additional power levels the needed cooling goes up rapidly. And the way to smoke a stock clutch pack is to juice the car when the transmission fluid is cold (under 155F or so). At that fluid temp the SST ECU does some sort of slipping maneuver to warm itself up and instead it ruins them. Also never juice it when not in S-Sport. I have so far had great luck with my MR that I bought new in '12 (55kmi now). But I am adding a third cooler to keep up at my power level...

Other than hard driven track days and heat soak not being addressed properly during hard driving, the SST should never overheat if it's maintained and I believe a heater is more valuable than extra cooling. You've had great luck because unlike the internet churn on people over-exaggerating issue that they've never experienced themselves, you're experiencing reality by actually owning one.

Also, there are SST tables in the ECU that have a lot to do with the transmission shifting like butter. These settings aren't here just to look at, I've been making some small adjustments lately and seeing positive and negative impacts.

The SST with a STOCK car even overheated by journalists when the MR came out. I haven't done HPDE yet, but I am able to get it over 200+F with spirited driving and that's with TWO coolers. I am very confident that without a 3rd cooler (or more serious 1,2 coolers) my SST would overheat within 2 laps road-racing. There are several X-MR owners on here that have had overheat issues with just some bolt-ons. Mitsubishi did not size the cooler big enough nor the ducting very well. Street driving and stock the MR SST cooling is fine, that's about it though. And yes, I am very aware of the tables available for the SST, but there is no magic tuning method specific to the SST. 99% is just getting the MAP/MAF on the money.

i think that's one of the most important things that i'd like to focus on too keeping a cooled engine bay

Thanks for showing me this and even how it looks so the ECU tunning will really help ! For sure will get into this

Add the cost of a Dodson heated sump from Kozmic motorsports to be installed immediately upon purchase to help the trans live longer. Changing the SST fluid every 15-20k is what is the generally accepted interval to actually get the trans to last. I would change the rest of the drivetrain fluids at the same time. Engine oil every 3000-3500 miles.
