Final Edition Evo X with a rebuilt title

Hello everyone,

I am a long time Mitsubishi fan and car owner. I had a 2009 Rotor Glow Lancer GTS 5spd, and traded that for a 2011 Rally Red Ralliart Sportback. I loved both cars.

Upon my son being born in 2015, I started looking to save money. I traded the Ralliart for a 2013 Chevy Sonic RS 6spd, and it has been a fun little car, but I’m dying to get back in a Mitsubishi. I also have changed jobs so money isn’t as much of an issue.

I have been looking at Evo X’s because I love the way they look, plus I’m already familiar with the 4B11T.

That being said, I found a great deal on an Evo X Final Edition. The only problem is that it has a rebuilt title (obviously why it is a good deal). The damage was done to the drivers side rear quarter panel and rear door.

I know that the value is much lower, but I’m not too worried about that. I am more worried about the structural integrity of the vehicle. I’m assuming there would have to have been frame damage for the vehicle to be totaled.

I would love a Rotor Glow GSR, but those are nearly impossible to find. Owning a Final Edition would be pretty cool though.

Any thoughts on this? Does this seem like a good or bad idea? I have never purchased a vehicle with a rebuilt title before.

Hey, I've been in the same boat as you until just recently. I have a very similar story.

I've always wanted an Evo X, previously owned a Lancer GTS, and I too almost pulled the trigger on a rebuilt Evo X. It's a test of patience.

A couple years ago, I almost bought a rebuilt X. I reluctantly backed out. I waited, saved up, and just bought a clean one, and I couldn't be happier. Rebuilt cars can be quite the gamble. I would just wait until you can find exactly what you're looking for. Even if you have to travel a bit to find one you want (I traveled about 700 miles for mine) it will be well worth it in the end. I wish you the best of luck!

I appreciate the advice, man. The more I’ve thought about it, the more I’d rather not deal with it. I think I’ll continue my search for a clean Evo X.

I don't think frame damage needs to be there to make it a rebuilt title. Technically speaking, it's just totaled when the cost of repair is greater than the blackbook value.

I mean, I suppose it had to be a hell of an impact to make an X totaled, so you may be right on the frame damage.

All these new cars out today with LED headlamp assemblies can be upwards of 3k each side. A light impact that cracks both can total out a high mileage 18' Explorer platinum for example, with only radiator, and front end repairs.

Insurance is going to get expensive soon for everyone...
