Came here looking for opinions.
I'm looking at a 2012 evo gsr. 90k miles on the dash with upgraded clutch. Everything else is bone stock. The car is super clean with no rust. The last 2 owners took care of the car and are very mature. One big reason why I'm hesitant to jump on this deal is because it had a 4k roof repair. Previous owner took it thru a car wash and something happened that cause damages to the roof(so I've been told). The owner of the car wash took full liability and repaired it thru insurance.
Car is listed at 14k. Is this something that can be ignored or a hard pass.

The aluminum roof on the Evo X is bonded to the car and has a very specific replacement process. I could easily see it costing 4k
You'd have to pull the headliner and trim to see if it was a good repair but odds are it was done correctly.

All-in-all, it's usually a good idea to get a pre-purchase inspection. At 90k there could be a lot of maintenance needed (bushings, fluids, belts, etc.) and major issues should be checked for.
Overall, 14k sounds like a good deal if the car checks out.

$4k to fix the roof sound slike the roof panel was replaced. Probably no big deal.
I would be more concerned with mechanical. Have a PPI done by a quality shop. Compression and leak down tests for the engine being the #1 concern.

Send the link, I'm local and know a fair bit of the cars as there aren't very many of us to begin with.
I also work in the auto body industry as a painter and a 4k claim for an aluminium roof panel isn't something I would lose sleep over. Aluminium work in general is more involved, we see it all the time with the newer vehicles like 2015+ F150's and such. I would look it over but definitely don't turn it down just for that.
Like others said, make sure its mechanically intact and good. And be really careful, theres a lot of shops around that say they work on Evos but are complete clowns. Only a couple I would trust. Do your research and talk to locals if you're gonna commit to a shop for your work.

I would not worry about the roof.
a Simple roof repair can go a lot more then 4k
Think about it usually the front and rear windshield along all 4 car windows will be damaged.
check it and see how good a job they did
then focus more on the actual engine/tranny/transfer/diff
