Anybody have this issue with Carbon fiber trunk/hood??
I know a lot have. But I am wondering how to fix it safely. Anyway, I bought a clean, used VIS CF trunk a few weeks ago. I had my car outside this past week due to painting parts in the garage. I had a move blanket on top of my trunk, and then a car cover over the whole car. It rained a couple times. The trunk some how “faded” and there are hard “bubbles” coming up everywhere on the top. My best guess would be moisture got trapped and tried to escape which caused the bubbles.
see photos below
if anybody knows of a way to fix the bubbles and fading please let me know. I don’t know if I fully trust a body shop (or even myself honestly) dealing with carbon fiber. Maybe even recommend a shop in the Philly area that is known to work on CF?
Any help or advice is appreciated!
none of my other carbon fiber parts have ever done this and they’ve been on for years and exposed to all sorts of weather..
These are the hard “bubbles”. A guy at a local performance shop told me VIS doesn’t clear coat but they place some “gel” over the top. I am wondering if the previous owner clear coated it poorly?? This is the “fading” even though it could not have been exposed to sunlight due to the move blanket being placed on top.
I am also thinking it has been clear coated by the previous owner, I have a vis cf trunk and hood, although not exposed to harsh weather it has been out in the rain afew times and never done this, they pretty durable and high quality cf. This should not have happened..
