Our cars came with HFC134a (R134a)
16.0-18.3 oz is the factory fill spec on refrigerant.
It's a pretty standard system so anyone that can service AC should have no trouble with your car.
Did you discharge it, or is there a leak? If it's leaking you must fix that first. You need to replace any of the oil you lose dismantling the system to do the repair. Then you need to pull a vacuum on the whole system. If all the leaks are fixed it should hold that vacuum, you should wait at least 30 minutes to be satisfied it is holding the vacuum. Once you are sure the system is holding vacuum you can go ahead and recharge. I needed 2 12 oz cans to do the job on my evo 8, but I had left over in the second can. I'm not exactly sure what the capacity is on a X so you should probably look that up.

thanks! What oil would that take and what would the leak look like if it refrigerant or oil?
PAG 46 oil. Unless someone added dye, you won't see refrigerant leaks. Oil leaks look like oil. The refrigerant is much smaller molecularly than the oil so it can leak out without any oil leaks.

that’s some good information. Where would the oil need to be put in if needed? The AC compressor?
What parts of the A/C system have been removed? On the 8/9 there's an equation in the service manual to figuring out how much oil is needed.
Mira fully intact, everything is still on the car as I haven’t taken it apart. The blower fan is still fine as well. This is what I picked up from AutoZone
Does that recharge kit have dye? I've never had success with stop-leak on AC. It might work for a couple months with a small leak but if you blew out a seal or an o-ring it might not even hold the charge.
If you want to try out the parts store kit, go for it. If it fails again / doesn't stop the leak you need to take it to an AC shop to fix the leak, pull a vacuum, and put the right amount of oil and refrigerant in.

thank you! I’m sure that will probably be the way to go as any job done is never the easy way or the cheapest. I’m gonna put the recharge in and see what happens. Hope it creates enough pressure to engage the compressor. Big fingers crossed! I’ll let y’all know here soon!
