Wastegate opening under light throttle normal?
I have the ets atmospheric 02 dump on my X. Under light acceleration, it’ll open up a little bit. Is that normal even though I’m only around 2 pounds of boost ? Shouldn’t it be closed until I apply moderate throttle?
The wastegate should generally remain closed under light acceleration or low boost conditions, such as 2 pounds of boost. This allows the turbo to spool up quickly.
However, if you're hearing the atmospheric dump (blow off valve) under light acceleration, it could potentially indicate that the wastegate is opening prematurely, or there may be a leak in the system, causing the blow-off valve to vent.
The exact operation can vary based on the specific wastegate and blow-off valve settings, the car's tuning, and other factors. It's also possible that the pressure required to open the wastegate is set low, causing it to open at low boost levels.
If you're unsure or suspect something is off, I'd recommend having it checked by a professional or contacting ETS for their guidance. A mechanic or a professional familiar with your Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (Evo X) and the ETS Atmospheric O2 Dump should be able to inspect your vehicle and help ensure everything is working as it should be.
