HOW TO: Firewall Access
Parts Required
- Whatever your trying to run through the firewall.
Tools Required
- Long Phillips (+) Screwdriver. Not too thin.
Recommended Number of People
- You can do this yourself.
Difficulty
- 3 - It's a pain if your not used to working in tight spaces.
Time to complete
- 30 seconds
Step by Step Instructions
1 - Locate the main rubber grommet in the engine bay. It has a big fin on in. Don't be fooled. It's impossible to pull it out without unwrapping it from the wires.

2 - Now poke a hole through the grommet on the left side just above the little tab that appears to split it in half. Go nice and slow, while turning the screwdriver, so that you don't snag any wires and don't cut into anything.

Firewall - Cabin Side - It completely misses the wires, since the wires come in and cut to the left, and we made a hole on the right, there is actually enough room to pass a vaccum line or sensor wires or what have you.

It may be hard to see, but there is a Thick White Wire in that harness. I have the screwdriver coming out well below it. Its silver, so look again and you will see it.

If you need it bigger, you can cut a bigger hole with a razor or if you want just cut the tape off from the wires and try to slide it down. I went with the easier approach. Just keep in mind that there are very fragile, thin, important wires there. Don't go to fast, and use a phillips.

I am running a vac line whenever I get a gauge, and maybe some power wires if I decide to get an electronic exhaust cutout.
Here are some other ways I tried to get through.
Over the wheel well lining. Maybe there is access to the cabin through here and behind the drivers’ side kick panel. No idea.

This little grommet, I have heard, goes to the back rear of the glove box. I haven't fully explored this option either. It just seems like an unnecessarily long run for something like a boost gauge.

Tried the grommet spot, way to tight an area to fit my hands iin behind the gas pedal to even reach it. Plus I have electric gauges which require a little bigger hole.
The plug on the glove box side worked very nice. Easy to get to and easy to run the wires back up under the dash

There is access through there there is a small grommet that ends up near the inside fuse box, only problem is you cant fit very large gauge wire through there I think it is possible to fit amp power wire through there i cant remember what gauge i put on my 08 since my brother has it now its hard to check, I did use this method to run my front laser shifter from the front of the car to the interior near the fuse box, my laser detector main "board" sits hidden down there.
^ that one's a little hard from the engine side, but pretty easy in the car.
Pull the glove box, pull the panel on the right side of the passenger footwell, pull the sirius tuner unit, pull the carpet on the firewall, pull the grommet.

i'm thinking to route some power cables. now that i finally found a nice 4" fan to blow some heat from the turbo/engine, in heavy trafic conditions, it would be perfect since the location that i was planing for the fan is in that side.
