Heya all! I just posted similar question in another part of the forum... but I had missed out reading this section... I'm pretty new at this.. but I'm getting a bad feeling about this...

What I'm understanding from all this is that, unless its for Evo X specific aftermarket electronic item.... I will not be able to tap RPM and Speed signal from anywhere?.. like the older style traditional setups?...due to the CAN thingy on the Evo X's?

I hope some one can help... I just bought the Defi VSD-X and have no clue where to get the RPM and Speed Signal... I overlooked the CANs and just tot it would be a simple tap a wire plug and play setup..

Has anyone figured or solved this problem yet?... thx

You can tap coil #1 signal wire for rpm signal, just set the "device" to single cylinder. VSS signal wire is there also. If in doubt, search the audio sub forum as there are a couple posts about the VSS signal wire.

Don't recall the pin numbers but they are on the RRE hosted pinout.

Here's an option that MSD makes; it's supposed to work on c.o.p. setups. It converts signal to 12v linear output that most aftermarket tachs use.
Tach Adapter

Yes, exactly.

Coil #1 signal wire is Pin 4 on the ECU pinout, not sure on the vss wire, have to find that in the audio forum via the old search button. I think VSS setting should be 4 (not the pin number but the setting), thats the norm for Jap cars, has to do with the number of "pulses" per mph or something. Just try it and see, if it's not matching up with the speedo then change the VSS number, but I'm almost positive it's 4.

This thread has the vss wire info:

Thx Boostin and Mad!.... ok guessing to try the taping from coil thingy then see if can set to single cyclinder to see what I get.... then just a quick check.. has anyone tried the
MSD ignition thingy yet?... http://store.summitracing.com/partde...?part=MSD-8918

Boostin have u?... seems like a quick fix if it does... and if it does.. any idea how to hook it up?... and where do we tap that too?... all this tapping around is scaring the crap outta me... afraid I might just blow up the ecu or something... heard its a very sensitive equipment and not TAP frenly.

Thx again

It's not actually a splice or tap, it's a clamp that the positive coil signal wire just passes through like an amp shunt and converts the input it receives to a flat 12v signal. It's non-invasive and can't hurt the system.

Haven't tried it on a X yet, but I know a lot of people who have used them with c.o.p. systems on other vehicles and it works.
