DYI oil change
Seriously man, just jack up the passenger side of the vehicle and support it with jack stands. Crawl under the front of the car and unbolt the 8 or so bolts that secure a removable section of the splash gaurd. Once this is done, unscrew your oil filler cap and unscrew the drain plug. While that's draining, unscrew the oil filter. While still dripping, lower the car to allow the oil to drain evenly and then back up on the jackstands. Make sure you remove the old crush washer from the drain plug. (it's there, 100%, trust me.) Install the new one in the correct direction - flat side towards the nut, bumpy side towards the threads. Clean off the oil filter housing and spread a thin film of oil on the new oil filter gasket. You can also pour some oil into the filter if you want. I do, it helps filling. Tighten the filter 3/4 of a turn past when it touches the housing or 14 +/- 2 N-M. Tighten the drain plug 39 +/- 5 N-M. (I got used to using Newton Meters rather than Ft-lbs. Most torque wrenches do both) Put your splash gaurd back, lower the car and fill it up. This is where many people including mitsu service departments overfill. Fill the car until the dipstick reaches the top dot. No more, no less. Start the car and run it for 1 min. Check dipstick again and you'll see that the oil pump and filter, etc has taken your oil level down slightly. Add enough oil to get back up to the bottom dot on the dipstick. Then go for a ride and check again. Wait for it to cool completely and check again. This method I've found is the best for not overfilling, which can be worse than underfilling.

I'm at 5,800 miles on the car. I had my first oil change at the dealership @ 3k (had a coupon). I noticed after i got home, 20 miles later, the oil was prety dark for new oil.
Last night at 5,800 miles, I changed the oil. It was SUPER dark. Not only that, I added exactly 5qts in and it looks like its about 1/2 qt above the top dot on the dip stick.
I just spoke with service at mitsu, they told me not to worry about it. And any extra oil will recirculate into the intake and 1/2 oil is not a big deal.
Should I be worried. I took my oil to work today to dispose, and our mechanic said it looked WAAAAY too dark. Our mechanic works on tractors, mowers, cary-alls...prety much anything a grounds department would use for a park.
Thanks,
John
