Drive on back down to Dallas and have KevinD do yours. He's doing mine next weekend.

Are you going to do any autocross this year with the OKSCCA?

Well since you've changed a few of these beasties, anything we should look out for?

He's done so many VIII & IX clutches I don't think it's a huge difference, but you never know.

Yes, its a few HOURS more work and a lot of heatshields to remove as the engine is backwards of an Evo 8-9.

there are heatshields all over the place on the X. And some of them truly are hand slicers (like the turbo chimney).

I want to make sure the car is up to the task first. Where does KevinD work out of? Send me a PM. I am down there alot taking the kiddos to the great wolfe lodge.

sorry just saw this post, i work out of irving (just north of the DFW airport) . i can change your X clutch no problem if/when you need it done. it took us 7 hours to do goofygrins clutch, but that was with a lunch break, and a lot of chit chatting. its easily doable in 5 hours with no interruptions.

As we speak my X is sitting on a lift at a friends garage. We have gotten to the point where the tranny is broke loose of the engine and the transfer case is slid away as well. Two walls we have hit. 1: We cant get the throwout bearing to release so we can pull the tranny completely off. 2: IT looks like even when we do we will not have the clearance to drop the tranny out due to some subframe to the rear of the tranny/transfer case. Any notes would help. Thanks

there is a lock clip on the throwout bearing you will need a screw driver to disengauge it
and once you have the throwout bearing delt with its not bad at all youll just have to turn and twist trans to the right spot and it will come right out

how many miles should a stock evoX clutch last if you know how to drive stick pretty well and would only be daily driving the car not beating on it or taking it to the track?

We tried for several hours to remove that throw out bearing. its as if something is stuck or damaged. We gave upand put it back together. The throwout bearing simply would not realease. Very frustrating. We even tried acccessing it from top and bottom with screwdrivers and turning them simultaneously. It was requiring too much pressure so I called it off. Is there something we were missing with that thing? Pressed the lever on top to the drivers side and held pressure that way as we inserted the screwdriver and twisted 90 degrees. It seemed to create some room between the throwout bearing and pressure plate, but would not "pop off".

If you man handled the T bearing, You may have damaged the clip. It just takes time and patients to twist the flat head in the right spot. You will hear it and feel it once you get it right. Pull the plug and access it from the top of the tranny.
