Tephra, what does this wire do? Is it a 12v on/off with headlights? Or is it a variable step down in voltage that changes with dimmer levels?

As a semi-intelligent update .... the blank also has a plug in it with a green/white illumination wire, so you don't have to cut / tap into a wire that actually does something!

A hell of a thread bump, but I'm looking for an easy illumination wire to tap and have a couple of queries I was hoping you guys could help with.

Which blank is Fostytou talking about?:

And is pin 10 on C311 the 10th pin from the right on the top row?

I was in the same boat... i just installed a triple gauge pillar in my 04 Lancer ES... figured i'd hook up the illumination to the dimmer switch.. There was a black, black-yellow, and a green-white wire, and i tapped into the black-yellow... when i dim my dash lights it brightens my pillar gauges lol.

soooooooooo.... not quite sure where to go from here... research time i guess.

i'm kind of wondering if i can't just swap the positive and negative leads on my pillar gauges?

ugh no just tap it off the stereo harness behind the deck. Power, ground, 12v ACC and dimmer are all right there.

I was wondering if anyone has ever used a 5-way toggle switch or a volume/tone knob from a guitar to regulate the voltage, i feel like finding a place to mount it wouldn't be that challenging, I feel like that would be a better alternative than having to dig through the wiring harness searching for the dimmer wire
