This seems to be a DIY weekend project I could do, but before I go out and purchase the parts, I have some noob questions. I just got a 2012 Evo MR and want to know once the ETS Intake and ETS UICP are installed, do I need to tune my vehicle to benefit from upgrade? If so, do most of you use AccessPort maps to do this? If not mandatory, is it safe to operate without a tune and will you get the full benefit of upgrade? Lastly, what increase in HP/TQ can be achieved with this upgrade?

Thanks

A tune will benefit you regardless of the intake. It's not needed to "benefit" the intake.

If so, do most of you use AccessPort maps to do this?
Everyone will have their own opinion on this. For simplicity, additional features and convenience, I went with the AP. No regrets.

is it safe to operate without a tune
Yes, it is safe to use the ETS intake without a tune. (It maintains the OEM MAF.) Your dealership may have a problem with it for warranty reasons. May not hurt to check with them, if that concerns you.

Lastly, what increase in HP/TQ can be achieved with this upgrade?
You'll notice very little. Just a great sound, and better throttle response. If you tune it, you'll increase HP/TQ. But again, with a tune, you'd see that increase with or without an intake. This seems fairly new to you, take a bit of time and search for "ETS Intake", you'll get a ton of info.

In step 10, how do you go about extending the solenoid line? is there a connector that connects both sides of each line? I'm just trying to figure everything out before I do my install this weekend. Thanks guys

We supply new line. You just replace the factory line.

I just picked up a used UICP and Intake. Can you go WOT with the intake and UICP without a tune? This guide is very useful, can't wait to put mine on.

The intake utilizes the stock MAF sensor, so a tune is not required. The uicp doesn't need a tune either. I just installed the intake today and its amazing, need to install the uicp when i get more time.

Thanks for the help! The only issue I had on my 2012 X was the installation of the factory bolt (end of step 11) for the heat shield. I had to bend the bolt bracket in the car at an angle to where it would accept the bolt through he angled shield.

Swoosh!

How well did your UICP line up? Mine that I bought I had to return because it was bent wrong got the replacement and the second one was still off. Kept hitting that sensor loking thing next to the oil cap and it seemed it was to long. So that is why I wanted to know if how well everyone's UICP lined up. I have a 2013 EVO X GSR so I dont know if they may have made some changes to the 2013.

I am having problems finding the second bolt to install the heat shield anyone else have a problem with it ? 2012 GSR. I will take pics tomorrow when it's not raining. Intake install went well other then the heat shield. Car sounds great now even sounds quieter at hwy speeds. No drone from stock anymore.
