Question Functional Tow Hook Install

Is it possible to install a functional front tow hook at the location on the front crash beam behind the little door? When I tapped it out for the pilot hole I assumed I could tap it with the proper thread tap but found the beam to be hollow and aluminum. Therefore, I assume that if you were to drill through and then put a bolt on the back side of the crash beam, I don't think you'd wanna tow the vehicle with that thin piece of aluminum.

*Disclaimer: Searched threads and forums and unable to locate info I seek.*

What kind of exhaust do you have? I have a single exit exhaust and I use the Move Over Motorsports tow hook on the back.

what people do is make a plate with a bung and weld it into the spot behind the "lil door" for the tow hook, not tap it..i would believe that would be very weak

I have a dual exit exhaust and can weld a bolt to the back frame but I would think a weld on aluminum would be as weak as running the hook through the crash beam. I'll talk to a welder, thanks!

Move over motorsports are making a rear dual exit bolt on tow hook. Check out their fb page.

It's blank. I think some people say the JDM crash beam has a threaded hole for a tow hook. No luck for us. I drilled it and sandwiched a steel backing plate in conjunction with the Rennline screw in receiver and their fold down tow hook. I screw it in when I get to the track, unscrew it and put the cover back on when I leave.

Either replace the OEM crash beam with the JDM crash beam or drill a hole into the OEM crash beam with a nut welded on.
