No cut / drill license plate mount Evolution X FE

Hey all!!

I live in a state that spanks you and takes away your birthday if you don't have a front license plate mounted. I have fought it, my wife has been harassed, random tickets while parked, it is a losing battle here.

I usually cave in and just drill into the bumper and mount it right away when I get my car. Rip it off like a band aid.

This time, I swore up and down there had to be a better way.

After much research, I finally found the solution that worked for me.

1) Install JDM crash beam (lose ~9lbs in the process from the front)
2) Install Grimmspeed GT-R 24mm x 3.0 thread pitch front license plate mount
3) Only use one of the two supplied bushings on the curved bracket, which keeps it from sticking out too far imo.

Art from Grimmspeed was so much help through this process. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what the size and pitch was for the JDM crash beam. I just knew it was a massive size. One of my goals of the crash beam was to install a tow hook anyways for track days. I ordered a Kansai Tow Hook and measured it with nuts at my local hardware store. Ironically, that store and fastenal didn't carry bolts that would thread into the crash beam, so had to do it the reverse way .

A few pics, to follow, but all in all, very simple and glad Grimmspeed was such a great help even though they didn't have Evo specific mounts.

Middle two compare the difference between using one vs two bushings.

Overall, I'm very happy that I can take this off on track days and throw the tow hook on with ease. License plate doesn't become a burden on aero or an eye sore when I'd like to remove it.

From: Tx,
This is mine just 3M lots of them. Car wash and it's been a year and still holding. Hate drilling the bumper and even in that position it's not overheating.

i used the skene design license plate holder on my bumper, you still need to drill 2 small holes. The design allows you to drill into the underside of the fog light opening so the holes aren't visible when you take the plate off. It only costs $35 if i remember correctly and its fully adjustable
