Mr Interior Trim Pieces Question
Mr Interior Trim Pieces Question
I have an MR and was thinking about spraying the gloss black trim pieces that run horizontally across the interior. I haven't had a chance to look at them, but how hard is it to get to them? Just a couple of screws? Or do they even come off?
The gloss black is driving me nuts because it shows everything, finger prints, dust, etc.
I was either going to paint it to graphite grey like the exterior, matte silver like the other trim pieces or do a carbon fiber wrap. I'm not sure if I want to introduce cabon fiber into the interior though because its like crack that way.

It's been a while, but from what I can remember:
For the long trim piece above the glove box, there are a couple screws that you undo, inside the glove box. There are then a couple plastic clips that hold it in, toward the hazard light button.
The small trim piece to the left of the steering column needs to have some plastic below it popped out first. I think that's just held in by clips too. (You'll figure it out easy enough).
The door trim is the annoying part. The whole door panel needs to be removed to do such. The doors have 3 screws - one by the door lever, one on the upper left of the door panels (by the b-pillar) & one on the handle. Next, you'll need to remove the tweeter (slides up & dangles by wires). Then, start pulling from the pocket the tweeter housing left. Pull toward the b-pillar, then work your way around. You are going to need to remove the door lever from the car, as well as unplug 2 wires from the speakers. After that, the door panels should be off.
After that, you'll need to unscrew the top row of screws on a white plastic piece (behind the door panels). There are also 1 or 2 screws in the same area that need to be undone. The plastic trim will then be accessible & has a few clips that need to be popped out.
This whole thing is pretty easy w/2 people. The 2nd door takes 5 minutes after you get the hang of it.
Hope this helps.

Has anyone pulled the same finished pieces by the shifter and those doors off? Curious how they come out/off. Help would be appreciated.
EDIT: Just pulled the trim pieces off that are painted in this picture. Was pretty much described as above but I thought I would add some details from my experience.
The doors have three screws like said, two covered with plastic bits. These come out by gently prying one side, the middle one has to pressed either in towards to front of the car for the passenger, or in towards the back for the driver door. The three screws here are easy to remove. Then gently lift up and pop loose the tweeters. This was tricky but not a lot of risk, just took some effort. Then what worked really easy for me was to start popping the back clips by the mirror and work down and around. Once you pop all clips, the panel will move freely. To remove just the trim piece for painting/vinyl, just remove the five screws behind it and push the clips towards the top of the panel to get the trim to slide out.
The piece by the driver side required three push pins on the lower flex piece to be removed and the hard lower dash piece to be removed which is held in by 2 screws. Then it just slides out.
This was all pretty easy and I am actually driving with all pieces off until I get to the vinyl guy to help me. The other pieces I need help removing are the trim pieces by the shifter and my Evo has two doors below the HVAC. If anyone has removed these pieces, please help!

I promise the ugly faux CF pattern will make you forgot all about the fingerprints.
i was thinking of doing that carbon fabric wrap thing...but i'm not confident enough to do it myself
wrapping real carbon with epoxy looks easy compared to that...
