New Toys! D1 Spec Throttle Controller, T1R Short Shifter, Shift Knobs
Got some new toys installed
D1 Spec Throttle Controller... wow, what a big difference on throttle response and drivability. I was skeptical when I first saw the Buddy Club and Blitz ones, but after driving a friend's car with the throttle controller, I was convinced it works. Best part of the D1 Spec is that it's a lot cheaper than Blitz
. Has 7 sport modes, and 5 eco modes, as well as stock. It even has a reverse lockout feature, which disables the throttle control when you're in reverse (so you don't gun it in reverse by accident
)
Here's what the kit comes with:

It's a plug and play system, super easy to install. Although for the reverse feature, you do need to do some extra work.

and the D1 Spec on:

And I finally got the T1R short shifter installed with pics of the various shifter positions. Lots of people have been asking me for that, sorry for the delay! The throw is noticeably shorter and is more precise feeling than stock. Although when the tranny is cold, it is a bit notchier/stiffer. I also put in the T1R shifter base bushings. Any short shifter and shifter base bushing set is a definite must on the Evo X. It just feels so much better than stock.

Finally, got to try out some new T1R shift knobs. This is the T1R-Alex Eggo titanium shift knob (don't ask why it's called Eggo
) with gradient finish:

unfortunately the in-car picture kinda got washed out with the camera flash:

Here's the same shift knob with the full blue Ti burn:

and in car:

And back to the T182R, still my favorite:

the the obd2 plug only provides the throttle controller with power. You can actually draw power to the throttle controller from elsewhere so that you don't have to use the obd2 port. It's really easy.
the only difficult part of the install is drawing the lead for the reverse signal. We wanted to keep our wiring clean, so we drew the signal from the tranny and ran a line thru the firewall. Actually, the reverse function is optional, you don't have to connect it, it's really not a big deal, but I wanted it fully installed.

It does improve the response on the MR also, although that initial lag of the SST on start up from 1st gear or reverse is always going to be there.

it's a big improvement already. These throttle controllers increase the voltage signal from the throttle pedal to the ecu, reducing the time needed to spin up the engine. So it's still going to that lag time on off the line response that MR's have.
