Doesn't matter if it's coke, beer, sprite or what ever. Just need it for the aluminum content.
Halos are there to stay. Not my call, owner wants them installed.
Using FX-R BiXenon projectors so it means I've got high beam sorted.
Owner will be running OEM 35w ballast. 35w is all you need to light up the road. Esp if your using a well designed projector with good light spread... FX-R ****s all over OEM CZ Hella BiXenons.

1st Update:

Ok, here we go with the 1st update:

let me give you some specs on what im going to do:

* Pull everything apart

* Remove & replace the crappy OEM Hella BiXenon projector for an FX-R BiXenon set.

* Dremel out the OEM chrome shroud from the low/high beam housing and retrofit a 2.5" OEM BMW E46 shroud + 95mm raw CCFL halo ring (no casing)

* Retrofit a fake non-functional 2.5" projector + 3" OEM BMW E46 shroud + 100mm raw CCFL halo ring (no casing) into the DRL housing...
Note: 105mm halo ring is the best size for a 3" E46 shroud but no one makes "105mm" rings.... except for one RIP OFF company

* install 4 x custom shields, painted red for each projector lense.
(makes projector look red during the day when headlights are off)

* install 4 x LEDs for each projector
(makes projectors glow red)

* Paint entire housing matte black

* Tint CCFL halos with Niteshades

progress shots:

FX-R BiXenon projector... I didnt think to take any comparison shots with the OEM Hella projector.... It is definately bigger in size. This could possibly be the worlds 1st projector retrofit into a CZ4A MR headlight. The design of the OEM internal housing doesnt allow for easy fittment of other BiXenon projectors, possibly detering anyone from having a go.. NOT ME
The 2nd, 3rd, & 4th pix will give you a better understanding

OEM housing finally dremelled down to the right level. It took me 3 or 4 levels to get there. Better to dremel not enough then too much housing. FX-R yet to be bolted in.

Too scared to dremel the chrome ring in one sweeping motion due to awkward positioning. Decided to drill grooves then snap off each piece with a pair of long nose pliers.

2.5" OEM E46 shroud trimmed to size + 95mm CCFL raw halo:

As mentioned before, 95mm halos are the perfect size for a 2.5" E46 shroud. The halo sits behind the grooves to create a good look. I'll explain when it comes time to actiavte the halo.

Positioning the halo behind the grooves makes them stand out when lit up. A 90mm halo will actually sit in the middle of the grooves. when it lip up it wont look as spectacular. I know, Ive tried both!!!

My post did confirm that they were "OEM" shields
Ways you can tell OEM over replicas:
* OEM shrouds have the logo "XENON" on the side. No logo for replicas
* The grooves stop where the "XENON" logo starts. Replica have the grooves all the way around the shroud

Replica:
version 1 (flatter edge) - http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2545/...df4e4d7d6a.jpg

version 2 (grooves all the way around) - http://www.retro-solutions.com/Produ...ds/E46ext5.jpg

The ACTUAL cutoff shields of the projectors WERE NOT painted red. Custom home made shields (coke cans) were made and positioned between the lense & ACTUAL cutoff shields

My post did say I would "Retrofit a fake non-functional 2.5" projector...... into the DRL housing"... you cant fit a "WHOLE" projector in there. That housing is too small, esp with E46 shrouds.
Ill reiterate the setup:
* The FX-Rs will be operational, providing low and high beam
* The projectors in the DRL housing WILL NOT provide a low or high beam light source. They are there to give a "Quad projector look" + glow red with LEDs

2nd update:

Test fitting a white LED onto the red shield at 6pm. You can see the white light reflecting at the bottom (annoying). Looking to source a red LED and hopefully give the projector more of a "red" look..... REMEMBER, the owner wants them to glow red (NOT ME)... Whether you like the look or not = my care factor of ZERO..... YES it is illegal so dont post something we already know

Another test fit at night (with flash).

No flash.
Standing at this angle, you dont see much of the red

The further front on you stand, the more obvious the red is

I was using 2 different types of LEDs in this test (both white) which may explain the inconsistancy in the 2 red appearances. As I stated before, Im looking to source red LEDs to see if they will give an improved look.

Standing further back, when you cant see the red shields, the white LEDs make the projector appear white.
