Tail light tints
Tail light tints
Hey I couldn't find a thread for this but if there is just point me to it. I am thinking of tinting the taillights on my Rally Red X and wanted to see what everyone else has done. Would those of you who have tinted tail lights post some pics of it on here for me and others to see? Thank guys and again if there already is a thread for this just point me there.
If you do, don't do them too dark. When they are completely black it looks cheap, just my .02!
Also, if you just want something different from stock check out ebay, there are a couple pretty good stock alternatives if you dig through all the crap...

Yea maybe the better plan would be to look at different tail lights instead and see what other options there are out there. I am not sure yet though I just want to have some plans for when it warms up here in Chicago.
Mine are tinted but im thinking of stripping the tint off. Since a few tracks i go to dont like it..lol.
It took me about 36hours total to complete. Heres how i did it....
-Remove tail lights from car and clean/dry them.
-wet sand with 1500 grit sand paper
-clean and dry
-apply 3 light coats of VHT nightshade. Let dry for approx 30mins between coats. After final coat, allow it to dry for about 6 hours.
-apply 3 light coats of clear coat and follow the same steps as before.
-allow paint to cure for approx 24-36hours.
-wet sand with 2000 grit sand paper until milky white residue starts to form.
-clean and dry
-apply poishing compound with a buffer wheel
-apply 3 coats of wax.
-reinstall tail lights.

After a few car washes i noticed it wasnt as dark as before for some reason. Still a nice shine to it but i can see each light housing during the day. At night you can see my lights perfect.

^^ that looks terrible IMO. I hate tail tint when it is black.. Looks really cheap. Someone had a really light coat of tint on the red tails and it looked pretty good but that is too dark for my taste..

I hated the cheesy clear chrome **** so I tinted mine...RED just like the jdm 7 tails. So much better looking IMO. I used glasurit clear coat and dumped in red to get as close as I could
hammered on a few coats and was done.

that^ has minor tint and like what others have said, dont do them to the point where they look black = ugly.
