Instead of getting a vinyl and because I wanna see how it looks I'm gonna try to plasti dip my roof black this weekend on my Rally Red X, any pointers or tips? I've plasti dipped rims before but never on a car. Thank you!

Are you going to paint it using rattle cans? If so I'd recommend you pick up one of these http://www.amazon.com/Can-Gun-Spray-.../dp/B000GLHUXI. Gives a little more control and won't ruin your fingers like the regular can will since you will be up there painting for quite a while.

I know the dip your car guy says like 4-5 coats of dip are usually enough... And you just wanna make sure its thick enough that it will stick to itself so you can rip it off in sheets.

if your doing it to just get the idea then i say go for it but, plasti-dip will never look as good as vinyl. I had both and no matter how good you are at painting with the rattle cans you can't thin the paint out to get it as smooth as you want. Vinyl is the best looking and very easy for even yourself to do.

When you finish up please post some pics. I had put some thought into doing this myself but not to familiar with plasti-dip. How do you remove it? Does it just peel off?

I did my WW Evo X roof about 2 months ago. I used about 3-4 cans of matte black Plastidip. I used a spray gun attachment. To have a better flow and less stress on the fingers. Rattle can will never be as smooth as a professional paint job or vinyl but pretty close if your patient and know what your doing. My roof has been through rain, snow and sunlight with no signs of fade or peeling. Here is a few pics of her plus a video how it peels right off when your done or tired of it.

if your going to dip your roof, i suggest the DIP nozzle atleast. If you use the reg nozzle that comes with the cans its going to be very hard not to get streaks in certain lighting. It always happens. The DIP nozzle widens the spray pattern and increases the flow.

Or buy a gallon od dip and use a HVLP gun to spray. then you can easily do it in 1-2 hours and add gloss if you want.
