Evo X Interior + Plasti Dip+ Finger Nail Polish
Evo X Interior + Plasti Dip+ Finger Nail Polish
Ive been playing around with plasti dip for a year or so now and have painted multiple cars and random stuff here and there but never really did anything out of the ordinary. I ran across a video of some guy taking plasti dip as a base coat then mixing finger nail polish and water together to make a poor mans Hydrographic. I love the Water Hydro Kits you can buy online but since i live in AK and they dont ship it here i had to make my own. I tested this on a few little things like wall outlets and my xbox faceplate etc.... Then decided to try it on some extra interior pieces i had bought for my X. Below are my results.
When I bought my X, the previous owner drilled holes through the plastic to mount a stupid iphone holder. So i always hated the look and eventually bought some spare trim pieces but my ebay order was not what they told me it was and i received the wrong color, so thats what i painted.

First i sprayed 3 coats of plasti dip (this ensures that if i didnt like this experiment that i could always peel it off.

Then you take some water and fill up a tote or something. Take a few colors of finger nail polish and drop that on to the surface of the water, then i took some toothpicks and spread the colors around into a swirly pattern, then slowly dip your plastic piece into the water and pull it back out.
The first time i did it some of the nail polish grouped up and made some splotchy texture, so i took 800 and then 1000 grit sand paper and wet sanded the whole thing then hit it with 2 thick coats of clear coat and this is how it looks in the car. These first pictures are in my garage and my flash really drowns out the color.

This last one is in the natural light where it really pops.

This is the last piece ill paint on the door trim, this way the whole interior kind of matches. Let me know what you think!
