Cheap Track Wheel

Does anyone have any suggestions for a cheap wheel for track use? I'm not looking for anything particularly light (at least not yet), but rather something sturdy that I don't have to worry about scratching up when throwing them on for track days. I've been running my Star Specs on the stock wheels, but I'm thinking I'm going to move to a track-only setup here in the near future.

I was thinking of just buying a used set off Craigslist or something, but I thought I'd check with you guys to see what you're running.

+1. They are even light in the wide (10.5") sizes.

Tire Rack has the TR motorsports C2 (SSR Type C clones) which are dead on oem spec (18x8.5 ET38) for $175 each. They weigh about as much as the MR BBS at 21.1 lbs each.

In the past, I've had pretty good luck running cheap ol' Rotas at the track, a set of 18X9.5 shipped for $800ish and never had any issues. For a few hundred dollars more you can run the lighter Enkies, but everyone I know seems to have or have had a set of NT03s for their EVO. The RPF1 is about the same price and a little lighter, so go with whichever you think looks better. After that it's just money, my TE37s are roughly the same weight as the RPF1s in 18X10.5 but cost 3 times as much but are probably 3 times as strong.

What's your price range? I have some well used LE28s in 18X9.5 +28 that are no longer needed...

I also think the cheapest good racing wheel comes from Enkei.
But also depends which type of race you want to run.

Hi Robevo, what kind of difference should we be looking out for if all racing are on tarmac ?

Tarmac only, i don't think you need a different quality wheels besides size's. If you planning to do Rally cross or similar race then you need something higher quality and stronger wheels. / Like Speedline Corse/
Unless you are a drag racer , i suggest you to get a lowest off set you can get as possible. That will make your wheel track wider , so it will gives you some handling benefit.

We carry a wide variety of Rota Wheels that work great on the Evo X for street or track use. The majority of these wheels come in 18x9.5 +20 to +22 fitment and are lighter than the OEM 18x8.5 wheel while being one full inch wider. All models for the Evo X are track proven and have held up to ton of abuse on the street, track, etc..
