Question rotors...

hey guys, im curious as to how many miles it took for guys to replace their rotors... just changed pads at 16000 miles and noticed a "lip" on the outer edge of the rotor, thought this was supposed to be taken off by shop...

You had the brakes done at a shop? They should have turned them to ensure a flush fit, you should inquire about it. If you did them yourself a local machine shop and lots of auto shops turn rotors. Hell, even pepboys and kragen have locations that do them.

Depends on how aggressive your pad and how hard you drive. I replace mine every 20k.

I have 35K on the original pads. You should be able to get at least 2-3 sets of pads before you have to replace the rotors if your running street pads. You can have the rotors measured with a micrometer to make sure they are OK. The minimum thickness spec will be stamped into the edge of the rotor (or somewhere on it).

i know high performance cars, the brake pads eat through the rotors alot quicker than say a civic or corolla....generally speaking, how many turns can you get out of an evo X before replacing the rotor? Hard driving, 1 turn? Soft driving, 2 turns?

I got 24K out of the OEM pads, and had to have the rotors turned separately at 36,000. Turning the rotors too soon will shorten this ratio above. I wish I'd gotten that many miles from the pads, but after 5 HPDE weekends, 500-600 miles, the pads were unsafe and too close to the plate for my comfort.

I'm hoping that I can get one more 'turn' out of my rotors, but I'm hedging. I'm trying a scarce brand, Winhere, that was too of a price to turn down.

All rotors have a specification limits and can be measured by a micrometer. it depends on how thick your rotors are before or after the cut. if it's close to spec after the cut, expect to warp them very quickly.

Time for some Girodisc. Just get a set and you'll be stoked!

Out stocker rotors do wear out pretty fast if you do track your car. If you daily drive, it should be fine for a while, but still depends on how you drive.

Does anyone know the minimum machining thickness the rotors(front and rear) have for the evo x? Rotors are oem and I'm trying to decide if I can resurface them or if I need to replace them. Thanks for the help!
