I've seen this. I think it is a combination of things, heat, pressure, high use. If it is a tiny bit and you don't have fade, and the bleed valve is tight, you are ok.

What would be a suitable brake disc for using Hawk DTC-70 brake pads (F and R) at the track?

Thank you,
Ziki

The IX and X share a common front pad. The rears are different, but you can get an adapter plate to help broaden your product selection as the X's rears were a new design.

(The fronts of both are a 'D1001' style, shared with many other cars like the Mustang GT, etc.)

Are you looking for stock replacement, or upgrade to a floating rotor design?

Question Minimum Rotor thickness

I'm changing my pads for the first time and I measured the rotors (they are the stock ones). They have aprox 1.125" or 28.575 mm Front. Do I need to replace them? I have an 2008 Evo X. What's also the minimum for the rear?

Thank you!

^On the lip of the rotor you will see the thickness requirements. Required info and placement. If it's worn through, time to replace them.

What do you mean by lip? The top of the rotor where both plates get together?

^Sorry about that. The "lip" is the edge that will still be visible after it's lathed. I guess that's the "perimeter", my apologies for bad grammatical use of geometry terms

How many miles did you get out of your OEM brakes? I got 24,000 out of mine, didn't need to turn my rotor until 36,000 when it developed a mild shudder under braking.

Bed in procedures are not all the same

Just thought I'd share my (first) experience bedding in new racing pads. I've broken in pads, bedded pads, plenty over my life. Some want you to baby them for 1000 miles without a hard stop to let them heat slowly and cure before you have HARD stops, some require HARD stops to set a layer of "material" down on the rotors before they work properly.

But I have NEVER seen what happens when you bed-in racing pads. I heard a little bit of it from an instructor, that he gets some attention in his subdivision when he beds in racing pads in his M3 and shows sparks, but I hadn't appreciated this til last night.

WOW -- when you bed in these pads with apparently large % of metallic matrix, holy cow do they throw sparks. I had someone catch up to me during my heat cycling, trying not to stop or go slow for too long and they pulled along side to offer assistance. They said they'd seen a lot of sparks coming from the wheels. Heck, I could see them too! Just sharing, what a lot of fun! Just hope they treat me right at the track. They do require heating up I can tell that much, but weren't terrible on my DD today.

Are the weights for the stock and aftermarket rotors correct for the X? They look the same as the older evos. Also, are all of the rotors listed available for the X? I can't seem to find the Baer rotors.

No one has done a list for the X rotor weights. Those are the CT9A numbers.
