Buy a new car. The x is a cadi compared to an 8 or 9.

I would try a different tire. I had some all-seasons on when I got the car, and they pretty much ruined the way the car handled and felt, every pot-hole and manhole cover felt jarring. Now with some dunlop direzza's I can still feel those bumps but it feels like I'm rolling over them and not smashing into them with my rims. I drive a 9 and not a X but I'm pretty sure that bad(or maybe just all all-season tires) can ruin the comfort of your ride.

Not sure if this has been said but maybe try some true all season tires? The sidewalls are sure to flex more and will probably give a slightly softer ride and a quieter one too.

I do have all season, potenza r90..somethin. Anybody recommend going with 235/45 tires? I know 245/45 will rub a little.

There's not much you can do to gain comfort without sacrificing the car's oem engineering.
Here is my advice:

1. Keep stock suspension
2. Get 255/40/18 all-season tires

If that doesn't do it for you, it might be time to look into another vehicle.

255? Are you saying wider tire=more side wall movement? I have seem guys with wider tires and it looks bulgy, more like a donut.

Actually the sidewall will be a little taller. The profile (40) is a % of the width, therefore the 255/40/18 tire is taller than the 245/40/18. The sidewall will be able to work a little more and decrease harshness, and the tires will fit fine on your oem wheels.

it depends if you fit your tires properly to your wheel. some has the stretched look because they "stretch" the tire into the wheel's width, and vice versa. the donut look is from a tire being too wide for a wheel (unless you have another type of donut in mind ). as far as thickness, like xrims mentioned, it depends on your tire width and the % for the sidewall.
