Snow chains f'ed my wheels

So, i went up to the snow, with my stock wheels and tires, i took chains because i know these tires are not meant for the snow.

I put the chains on when it got pretty snowy but felt i didnt really need them, but i kept them.

when i took them off to come home i noticed they had scratched the crap out of my wheels! around the edge and toward the middle where the plastic rubs, i know i should have a picture to show you all, but now my stock wheels are all messed up and they have some chips on them...

any of you guys use chains? or do you just use snow tires? because i dont know go to the snow the often...

and is there anything i can do for my wheels

thanks guys

why ???? i really dont see the need for chains on a evo... looks like your buying a new set or having them sanded down and painted/powdercoating

I went to the tire shop a few years ago to buy chains for my car, not the evo, and the guy at the tire shop told me not to put chains on a vehicle that has low profile tires.

The manual specifically tells you not the put chains on these wheels. I guess you learned that hard way. The best thing is to get a spare set of wheels and some snow tires.

This is good advice. With low profile tires it is almost a certainty (unless you have special chains) that the chain will pull down over the metal on the outside of the rim. It is only a matter of a few turns of the wheel or a slip of the chain before you scratch the hell out of the wheel itself.

As for the summer tires in the winter. It is not a good idea regardless. Get a set of dedicated snow tires if you have very snowy winters, or all seasons if you have light winters and put them on. The summer tires in any sort of frozen or snowy driving conditions basically makes your car a death trap. Do a search, there are many documented accidents because people use the Advans in the snow. It even has a label when you buy the car new that says that using those tires in the snow is very dangerous.

Sorry to hear about your problem, but your lack of research and band-aid fix caused the problem. If you are looking for advice, just search, the writing is on the wall...

Ouch not all tire chains are equal. Try to redo the wheels with someone like wheels of America. The best way to go in the snow is some narrow winter wheels and tires.

MB on Tire rack. Just make sure you got a wright wheel size with a right off set. Also the Rotas are cheap too, and they look good.
example:
4 for less then $650.

I'm not too sure you could find steelies that would fit our car. There's a few brands with inexpensive wheels. Try Rota, XXR, Axis, TWS.

I would powdercoat them. $200 and you won't be able to tell a thing.

I guess you still can if you don't like the fix job. Lots of color choices.
