Search out RB 500. Alot of us run them. They bite better than stock, very low dust and decent price.... Give Adam at MAperformance a call. Best Place I found for the price. I love mine I do not track but drive very aggressive and they are awesome.

I might check these out or check out the greenstuff pads after my HPS go. I only went this route because I'm on a budget and I NEEDED to change my pads before driving across country. I couldn't risk anything on a 3K trek across country. I might just save up and upgrade to a stoptech BBK. I think it's worth the $1800.

OP, good luck, if you're on a budget just give JSC a call, they'll save you money, I promise. Please, please, please do not let Mitsu do your brakes. They'll charge you waaay more than you need to pay. I don't know about your area, but where I live they got a DIY mech shop, $17/hr for a lift. If they got one in your area, just order everything and DIY. W/E you do, don't delay the 30K maintenance, especially if you're an aggressive driver. They replace all fluids, etc... about $520 just for all that =(

Thanks for the recommendation Gary!

OP - Let me know what you decide on and I will get you taken care of!

Thanks again,
Adam

I have used EBC Greenstuff on my Ducati and they are great pads, both on and off the track. Curious if you've had experience with their products on other vehicles to compare and contrast? Will definitely try to find a dealer that stocks this product when my brake pads are due for a swap.

Glad to see EBC makes products for the Evo X!

Hey guys, I was reading through here as I need to purchase breakpads as well (evo x, 24k miles). I am being told I have to get the rotors (front and back) machined and it would cost about $1,200 with the OEM pads/machining. Is it normal for a 25k mile evo to need rotor machining? Seems a bit ridiculous for that price. Any opinions would be much appreciated!

It is heavily recommended to cut your rotors in order to make them even before fitting new pads on them. If there are not many deep groves, you should be OK with minimal removal of the material.

That said, any removal of the mass from the rotor will decrease its ability to absorb the heat that is generated while braking. So, if you are chasing tens or hundreds of seconds, you might have different requirements compare to the guys that don't care that much about that little.

As of the price, I just got a set of the 2500 for $300 (both front and rear), but I have not installed them yet. Cutting of 4 rotors will hardly be more then $25 each, so that leaves $800 for the install. I was told it is fairly simple to swap those (one pin out, compress a bit/swap, and pin back in), but I have not done it on this car yet. Either way, it sounds you will be ripped off if you pay that much.

Thanks for the reply MrAWD! The dealership wants to charge me about $550 for the OEM pads plus 100 for the shim/clip set. Sounds like a terrible ripoff. The labor if I bring my own pads is $154/each for front and rear. Does all that sound about right?

I will most likely get the Girodisc "Magic Pads" from MAperformance, as recommended by many users on the forum. Does the following link include both front and rear pads:

http://www.maperformance.com/girodis...p1-2-0047.html

Thanks!

I actually just installed my racing brake pads yesterday. I would definately recommend them as a good alternative to the brembos. I ran the hawk hps on my old viii and did not like them.

Also keep in mind that the pins in the rear are a PITA to remove. I had to load them up (very carefully) with PB blaster and smack the **** out of them. The fronts weren't a problem, but the rears sucked!

If you take that typical labor charge is $80 to a $100 per hour, that goes for 3 - 4 hours to do them all, which is a bit of a stretch, but that might be cheap me talking. Of course, that is by me assuming they are charging $154 for both fronts and another $154 for both rears. Any other way is a big rip off!

That is definitely a rip-off. Sounds like a "stealership" price IMHO. Servicing Brembo brake equipment is no different than other disc brakes. Make sure the rotors are within wear limits before having them "turned" to eliminate surface groves. Most machine shops will do this for you (some rotors even have minimum thickness stamped on one or both sides for reference).

To answer your original question, "Is it normal for a 25k mile evo to need rotor machining?": Depends on the materials used in the pads and rotors. On Mercedes-Benz vehicles, the rotors and pads wear out at roughly the same time because the pads are made with high levels of metal in them. They wear out the rotors rather quickly (have seen them go in as little as 25k). So, yes, it is possible both pads and rotors need replacement at the same time, though it sounds like yours need to be turned only.

The expensive part will be the pads, in this case, since us Evo X owners usually like high performance pads rather than the el-cheapo ones most folks put on the average daily driver when the OEM units wear out. If you do the job yourself, invest in some chemicals to clean the calipers before collapsing the pistons back in to the caliper body. Are you servicing the brakes yourself, or taking the car to a shop? (I have plenty more "tips" for you if you plan to do the work).
