Tire Pressure
Tire Pressure
What tire pressure do you recommend. I have Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tires. I'm going to Autocross, Run Canyons and take it to Streets of Willow here in Ca. What psi should I run for each?
Go by what the door panel says for your car. Drivers door jam or door. Its calculated on the weight and wall height.
Traditionally, 30 - 40 is recommended. But running your tires over or under inflated will wear the outside (under) or the middle (over) more

40 cold is WAY too high. Idk what the supersports like, but the extreme performance street tires (200 tread wear, like the hankook rs3) like to be around 32-35psi hot, maybe a bit lower, for autocross, maybe a bit higher for track day stuff. For daily driving and canyon road fun, I would just run what the tire placard in the door jam says.
I would also consider a more "race" oriented tire next time if you're going to be doing track days and autocross. The super sports don't hold up that great if you're really capable of pushing the car..

I run that tire in 245/40/18 on my OEM GSR wheels, and find that 37 seems to offer the best feel, with less squirming, and perceivable grip. Closer to 40 I lose feel, and slide, but 35 or under, I feel like I'm rolling on the sides and having to correct nervously. Note I'm on GTWORX springs and a Whiteline rsb set in the middle.
With you setup, around 36-38psi HOT would be ideal. AutoX would require higher "cold" pressures than track days, because of the longer laps and session when tracking. I would guess your 'cold' pressures would be in the high 20s-low 30's range to start with.
If you get serious about tracking, invest in a PROBE type tire pyrometer to measure your tire temps, which will help you dial in your camber and tire pressures.

Door jamb pressure as a minimum to carry the vehicle weight. Tune up from there a few pounds at a time, not exceeding the tires max psi on the sidewall, until you get the desired feel.
I set it to 34 psi Cold. It feels good hitting hard freeway onramps. I'm hitting the canyons this weekend to get a better feel. Then I'm going to Autocross it the following weekend.
