Which One is Faster MR or RS

Which one is faster

RS is of course the lightest in weight

But the MR has six speeds and a better power band between each gear

If it does that would most definately make it faster on the track

But if the RS is lighter in weight, would that make it faster in the stright aways.

Some ones got to know the answer to this

I find this humorous based on your ability to know all about the Evo....(your sig)

Speed is an un-defined term. Straight line? Cornering? Either way, your splitting hairs, either car will be faster based on the driver, not the car.

I do believe the RS is lighter though, so think about some physics and conclude for yourself....

he doesnt say that he knows the answer to every evo question, he says that he can "find out" the answer. Maybe someone asked him an evo question and hes finding out the answer.

w/ only 88 lbs difference and same hp, would be very close. I know the 04 Rs compared in car and driver the MR is only 1/10 sec quicker.

His Location says Union Mitsubishi. My guess is that he prolly works for a mitsu dealer and wants to get his knowledge on the car up. The sig definately is irnoic though.

I thought the MR is RPM launch limited to 5000 RPM. It's that's the case, wouldn't the RS and 03 and 04 Evo be quicker in the 1/4 stock for stock since the best launch RPM is over 5000. I would think the 60 foot times would suffer on the MR because of this.

Anyone know?

The RS should be a hair quicker up to redline in 4th gear, then the MR will pull better after 4th. the RS has a dead spot between 4th and 5th.

It's probably so close that it doesn't really matter. I have an '04 RS with A/C. I think the 88 lb. weight differential assumes the RS is without A/C, so the weight difference is probably only about 50 lbs. for my car. But so what.

The important thing is that the RS and the MR are faster than the STi.

For me, the big difference is the price. RS is way cheaper than MR. It's a personal choice, really.

When the '04 EVO RS first came out, Motor Trend tested it at 4.4 seconds 0 - 60 mph. I think that's a little optimistic, and involved some serious clutch abuse. Nevertheless, the EVO is at least one second quicker 0 - 60 mph than the 350Z, when both cars are stock out of the box. Spend a few grand modding each, and the EVO will pull away even faster.

If you compare the 05 MR vs the 05 RS the most likely would be about the same since both have the aluminuim roof,ACD, FLSD. But with the new RS having the 5spd it might be a hare quicker than the 6pd plus the RS is lighter.

I can understand what you are trying to imply about a lighter car, however how does a 5sp become quicker than a 6sp? The 6sp drops the revs in the peak torque band for each gear 3-5 which reduces lag and increases tq. All things the same, the 6sp would be quicker.
