the v8 mustang has (claimed by ford) 260 hp and 300 tq at the flywheel

i no the evo isnt as powerful as the mustang, but i might need to detune it for my parents to agree to it, but dont worry ill undo whatever i did as soon as it wont be too conspicuous.

the point of this thread is, do yall have any ideas about reducing power in a smart way, i thought of puttin on an electronic boost controller and just dialing down the boost, or somehow restricting the stock airbox, any other ideas?

and what boost does an evo run stock?

thanks, Jon
I hate to say this, but I would never give an EVO to a 15 year old son of mine. I don't mean to disrespect or anything like that, but the car is just too dangerous for anyone who does not have a lot of driving experience and a healthy fear of death....

It's this way you see, the EVO is such a phenomenal handling, braking and accelerating car that it will give you a sense of invincibility. It's unfortunately also a false sense of security. I'd recommend first a lot of track time in the form of lessons. Also a car that wont let you get into trouble so fast....

I know that if I was 15 I would be drooling to get and EVO and you'll not appreciate what I'm saying. I'm not accusing you of being immature or foolish or anything like that. It's just that a lot of people (statistically speaking) are wrecking their new EVOs and killing or injuring themselves and others.

Please think twice about getting any kind of high performance car before you have some solid driving skills

Im sorry if I seem oblivious, but whats the point of turning down the boost? If your father knows about the Evo, then he already knows what it comes with stock. If my kid told me he promised to "turn the boost down" when he drove, id laugh at him. I really hope that your father is not that naive. With that said, The evo is honestly just out of a 15 year old drivers ability. It's really not an easy car to drive, I've been driving for 10 years already, and the first time I took it out, I was all over the road because of the quick steering. I know the Evo is cool and whatnot and your friends would love it, but I really do suggest you get a RalliArt...They are relatively quick, and pretty fun little cars. It bothers me that there are parents that both support their kid in getting a car like the Evo, and on top of that, actually purchases the car for them.

BUT, if you look back over the thread you will realize that i am not gettin an Evo now, let me repeat I AM NOT GOINT TO GET AN EVO NOW, im lookin at one for when im 18, afteri have been driving for 2 more years, doing auto crosses, and track events

please stop posting here if all you are going to say is that you disaproove of me getting and evo when im 18, im not asking for your opinions on that

By the way, I failed to mention that I saw yet another Evo, this time flipped over, smashed to sh$t on the beltway. (Baltimore beltway this time). That makes 4 Evo's that I have seen severely f'd up in probably about a year. If you are going to get the Evo, take it to a driving school. Your V6 mustang hasnt prepared you for the Evo.

There are people regardless of age who buy a high performance car because they appreciate the extra margin of safety when the car is driven responsibly versus those who buy one so they can show it off to others. I bought an evo despite the fact some people think the car is for kids (which it not) and its relatively lack of prestige. All the people who are have given their honest comment here are just trying to help Shutta realize the truth so he won't make the mistakes others have made. By the way, good luck with the car when you do get it.

Shutta, I didn't realize that was the case. I would say get it, but I was trying more to emphasize the point of being resonsible rather than putting the car into "limp" mode.

BNHrvat, age has a lot to do with rational, responsbility and being level headed. To advise someone to be better than a stereotype as to not become a statistic is merely, good, honest, clean advise. I still think a guy your age is more apt to take bigger risks than a guy my age or older. It took me until a year or two ago to understand that. Argue, you may.

i may not be able to get the car at all without puttin it in limp mode - i dont love the car for its power, i love the look, brakes, feel, short throw shifter, etc. etc. etc.

and no argument on the last part

and yes you can get into trouble in any car, but an evo with 10 lbs of boost is pretty moderate compared to most sports cars - and yes, i know most kids dont get sports cars for their first (or in my case, second) car

i understand what you all are saying, and im sure most of you would love to see me in a little econobox with -10 hp but even tho im young, i like a sporty car just as much as anyone, and notice the whole point of the thread - to bring the power of an evo down for ... SAFETY
you can't tune your evo to haveing 10 lbs of boost without having driveability problems!!!!
