We've lowered boost on an Evo to 14 PSI from spool to redline and never seen any adverse effects. It was done on a friend's Evo for fuel economy as a daily driver. The MAS reads a lower air count and pulls fuel out accordingly.
The only driveability issue he has was it wasn't as fast anymore.

why would it run rich if you dropped the boost, the MAF should read that the air is less than normal and inject less fuel

please, i dont know how many times im going to say this

IF YOUR GOING TO COMMENT ON YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT A YOUNG KID GETTIN AN EVO LEAVE MY THREAD, I DO NOT CARE WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT ME GETTING AN EVO

if i had to guess i would say yall were jealous of a young kid gettin the same car as yall and making it less exotic now that a kid has it, but heres a news break for ya, its NOT EXOTIC, and its not expensive so stop being jackasses and stop telling me what i should and shouldnt do

Yes , thats 14 psi, have you tried "10 psi" which is what this kid is saying, less than one bar, ridiculous

His original post that said 10PSI was more of a guess than anything. He even said himself that he wasn't the most knowledgable guy when it came to the Evo...I guess that is why he is posting on here and asking questions, right? Although, if you read everyone elses comments, you would think he as looking for advice from peers about what car he should be driving.

Me and him have been talking through PM because the level of garbage that is being thrown around in this thread is pathetic. You can take an Evo down to 12 PSI with no worries. We did 14 because it was a good compromise of power and fuel economy. At 11 PSI the car feels like a Camry.

This was all done on stock ECU. An S-AFC II was added later to the car and poost cranked up to around 20.5 PSI. Needless to say, he stopped thinking about his gas mileage at that point.

Oh yeah, I forgot....Because the styling, cornering, and breaking of an Evo is also degraded when you turn the boost down.

when u turn 18 lemme know if u get it. uve got a long way till u reach that age. but yeah i got my evo when i was 18 and it was awesome, just dont drive while ur imppaired becauyse thats where HOW the majority of accidents happen with young kids. otherwise you're safe cuz really who wants to end their own life by being stupid. drive safe, drive slow and have a blast at the track

People that think the car is going to run rich/mess up timing/etc if the boost is turned down have no clue and should just go ahead and stop posting about technical things. THE COMPUTER ADDS FUEL ACCORDING TO HOW MUCH AIR PASSES OVER THE MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR. Your car can (and often does) run fine under little to no boost, or under vaccuum. In fact if you aren't accelerating, you are most likely under zero boost or vaccuum. I would imagine unless you are running a race circuit, that is almost all the time you are driving. The car is meant to do that. Even at 0% duty cycle on my boost controller the car boosts to about 0.8 bar, or about 12psi if I floor it. That's enough to keep the spark plugs from fouling, which would be the SOLE worry I would have about limiting boost. So please people, stop spouting off misinformation.
