here is some common sense. in 2 or 3 yrs when you are FINALLY 18 the evo, (assuming you will be buying a used one from oh say 2004) will be average powered. at the rate we (as americans) are buying cars, fast cars, and as german, japanese, and american companies are all trying to prove they can build more, i see huge potential that our evos will seem underpowered versus many other cars on the market. vw is talking about making a monster again out of the GTI, audi the A3, honda still rumored to introduce a turbo civic, dodge an even more beefed up AWD SRT-4, GT mustangs. not to mention cars like the focus- who will up the ante soon, even the koreans are bound to get involved, and saturn is already trying. who knows what subbie will build next, maxda, and toyota wont let this all go without an entry, or even the next level evolution. the list goes on and on, your parents shouldnt mind you wanting a average powered car, that stops, and handles perfectly. you have a while to wait, and the evo will not be a top dog forever.

shutta you sound mature enough to handle an evo right now IMO. I was 17 when my parents bought me my first car/evo and it didn't take me a lot of discipline to hold back even with my friends who keep screaming at me to floor the car( which i don't) and my 21 year old brother who keeps *****ing at me for driving the speed limit and not doing awd burnouts/redline clutch drops. Just typing that to say teenagers shouldn't always be associated with wreckless drivers. To answer your question, try reducing your exhaust size to 2 inches.

im not against you gettin an evo at all (in fact, im all for it except for the whole de-tuning thing) and not trying to flame you, but why would you want a detuned evo that would be as slow as a rock? not like your gonna be able to go through twisties as fast anymore and if your in for styling, there are plenty of better looking cars out there, inside and out, for cheap, example, 05 rsx type s, but then again, thats opinion. but what would be your reason for having an evo if its detuned like crazy and cant drive to its full potential? by the amount of de-tuning your asking for, the 05 rsx type s would be faster anyway, not to mention more reliable, better looks (opinion) and more luxurious. im just a little confused about this whole ordeal. its like de-clawing and taking out a lion's teeth. the lion loses its main tools of survival and is worthless (horrible analogy) the only logical thing i can think of you doing this is you having the boost low in front of your house, but elsewhere, have it at full power but hopefully your an honest son to your parents. thats what i would be doing . but yea, if your gonna keep the evo de-tuned for good, then that would kinda be a waste IMO. i know you hate hearing this, but i would settle with something else, example, 05 rsx type s or OZ Rally. but then you might say, "forget the other cars. cuz i'll WANT an EVO, doesnt matter if its de-tuned or not" you might have the car and name, but whats the point if you nuder it? you cant even use the evo for what it was made for. you would just be wasting time/money/stress on making the evo a step lower. plus, has already made a lower-step version of the evo, begins with an O and ends with a Z.

remember, i am not flaming you or judging you. just very very curious. decide wisely.

the idea isnt to keep it "nudered" forever, im gonna drive it nudered for a while probably and then turn up the boost

i love how the evo looks, drives, brakes, feels, etc. not just the power so reducing power isnt that huge to me

and when you go to an OZ or an RSX they dont stop as well, handle as well, and they are both fwd!!!!!!!!

Shutta, this reminds me of something. I didn't want to pay full coverage insurance for my first motorcycle, so I tried getting multiple credit cards to pay for it. Failed. Then I tried taking out a personal loan. Unsecured, no credit=impossible. Then I just realized, time is what changes thing. Age helps my money situation and age also makes people more trusting and confident. When people dont trust you (your parents) you dont have to detune your car, you have to earn their trust. Be responsible, take some driving courses, drive with them, show them you want this and are going to go the distance for it. Then maybe they wont ask what the HP numbers are.

i in now way are using your age in consideration but years of driving experience. I have a friend who is 20 years old and he just got his drivers liscene. This guy gets in more accidents than anyone i know. Realize that this being your first real car, your going to bang it up, and be rough on it. Thats what we all do when we are learning. Im not sure how good at driving a manual transmision but if this is being the first, i would not get an Evo. Remember, it cost $30 or so for the car, but remember the price of maintaining the car. Look at everything else, and see if it is wise.. My first car was a mistu galant with a 4G64. great car but not as fast. Im in my twenties now and now i have the expierence to handle a faster car..

a car is one thing, but think smart
