i live in SO CAL... planning on leaving EVERYTHING stock... Maybe change out the steering wheel (on the GTO), and MAYBE the rear exhaust config and the front bumper (might get aero kit installed on it or whatever)

GTO is a stupid car...

could've bought a Camaro SS for half the price back in the day with the same performance...

Thumbs up

if it's the LS2 powered gto, then that is a faster car. if not, buy the MR. also even though the gto is made in australia (holden monaro CV8) it still will lose value + it's rwd + it's heavier.

Well 400hp is good but thats not all that hp down at the wheels. anyone know what the whp is on the gto? Their both good cars so make a good pick. I'd get the EVO MR (getting it next week)

Wink

my best estimate on the ls2 gto's whp would be about 333whp factoring a conservative 20% driveline loss. hi would be 347 & lo would be 320. the MR would be about 201whp (37% driveline loss on dyno dynamics) & 222whp (dyno jet 24% loss)

2005 GTO = 351/344 whp/wtq
2004 GTO = 311/334 whp/wtq

Motor Trend tests: 05 GTO 5.0 (0-60) 13.3@107 (1/4mile)
04 GTO 5.3 (0-60) 13.6@105 (1/4mile)

Real world tests: 05 GTO ??? I'm guessing 12.8@109 will happen eventually...
04 GTO 13.1@106 100% stock (Cecil Dragway, Maryland - multiple
cars and drivers have run this time)

If you do a lot of interstate cruising the GTO is an excellent choice. It is not really intended for performance driving like the EVO is. So, decide how you are going to use the car and the choice will be easy. But either way, both are relatively inexpensive cars and you really can't go wrong with either one.

I raced a silver GTO the other day (on a closed road) five times. A couple from a roll, a couple from a stop and he didn't stand a chance. I have exhaust, flash and bc and was beating him by 15 cars or so by 4th gear from a stop and atlest 5-10 cars from a roll.

I beat a GTO in my Sentra by 60 car lengths! As ugly as it is, the GTO is by far better looking and you can buy them in the mid to high $20's with rebates.

lol @ GTO

GM states that their new 05 gto can run the 1/4 mile time in 13.8! is that good compared to an awd evo mr ?

Personally I would go with the MR. But, it all depends on what you are looking for in a vehicle. Keep in mind the interior on an evo is "austere" and its ride is a bit on the harsh side. The GTO on the other hand will give you 400 ponies and some more creature comforts, a better ride, but I garuantee it won't be as fun.

Evo MR if you like to drive fast and concentrate on driving. GTO if you sometimes like to drive fast, but otherwise you normally like to cruise and pay attention to other things, like passengers, the radio, the scenery, etc. The Evo is definitely the more captivating car for the driver., but if can be tiresome if you aren't really into driving a go kart all the time
