caught up with a new GTO on the NJ Parkway the other day (4 lanes 65mph limit), he saw me coming (i was at 80mph) and punched it, so i downshifter and nailed the gas. He started to pull away once i was directly behind him, but to my suprise i stayed with him and ended up dusting him when we came into some traffic. I was with him from 80mph to about 130mph, when we slowed to about 95mph and started to weave in and out of the other cars he just couldnt keep up. I couldnt see him after about 40 seconds. I was happy that day. Lil 2.0 rocking a 350hp monster. go evo

Coming from someone who ownes both an Evo VIII and an 04 Gto i have to tell you that each car has its own advantages, the gto is more fun drifting and draging and the evo is more fun for autocross and just normal driving. The Gto has A LOT of power!!! way way more then the evo and you can tell it really throws you back into your seat and the interior of the gto is a lot nicer then the evo. But the evo gets way more attention from the ricers, it seems everywhere i drive a little honda always wants to race me, But not so much in the gto, when im in the gto i get a lot of looks from the old guys driving the more "sensable" cars, you know the ones the ones that always wanted a muscle car but there wifes wouldnt let them get one. Lol. But anyways im getting off topic, you can really compare these cars because there sooo different, allwheel drive- rear wheel, 4cyl. - V8, 4 Door- Coupe, Import - American. But if i were to have to choose one or the other i would still have my evo, I mean dude its an EVO!! LOL.

Lease the GTO and have fun drifting for two years and then get the EVO X or 2007 GTR. EVO IX and X are right around the corner so might as well wait for the newer models. Just my .02.

ah after a year, I'm now looking into the EVO 9 MR as my DD . I've had great experience with HB Mitsu when the MR was released, and was offered an INSANE deal back then. I probably will go back to them! Anyway, (Just for a recap) i purchased a FD (3rd Gen RX7) and yes, i know rotaries rotaries rotaries... And now I'm garnered enough cash to shell out for a Evo 9 MR. But what i REALLY want to know, is the difference between the EVO 8 MR and the EVO 9 MR besides the Mivec engine and the cosmetics. Of course, dealerships are ASSES about test driving these cars so i really have NO comparison.

Anyway, I'm planning to add a beautiful brand new RED evo 9 next to my baby here:

Now all i gotta do is give her some company to play with! But yeah, I've always loved the evo, and the new BMI videos always convinces me.

I guess the question now, is shall i stick with the last generation Evo 8? or go for the New 9? The 8's engine has proven itself for the past 10 years, now this 9...

anyway, any advice would be appreciated.

The Evo 8 and 9, other than the addition of MIVEC, have pretty much the same. They're both 4g63 engines. If I'm not mistaken, the biggest difference is the turbo. 9 owners on the board have reported dyno numbers on stock IXs of around 280hp. Some have actually gotten into the high 12s with just an intake and exhaust. Also, the IXs suspension is a tad softer to give it a bit more compliance over the VIII. It doesnt diminish any performance in that department, just makes it a bit more civilized on uneven roads.

I see LOL i must a complete idiot thinking that MIVEC is a BRAND NEW engine! haha.. I like the styling of the blackened housings of the lights and the rear lights, other than the ricey chromed out lights. But if what you're saying is that the Evo 8 is the better performer... my money's going toward the 8! (MR)

Well actually if it really comes down to apples to apples, the 9 is a better car compared to the 8. It's not a drastic change/upgrade but it is quite significance. If you're not a rush to get an evo, might as well wait for the 10 which several people are doing.

just read ur post.

yes the IX is a better car than the VIII. did u watch the BMI video on the EVo IX? they did several comparison tests between the VIII and IX. granted jdm Evo's are slightly different than US, you get the idea.

the IX is generally/usually dyno-ing 20-30 awhp more, stock vs stock or with equal mods.

u live in socal, hit up Mark at south coast mitsu. their prices are stupid low

Just buy both. I have the 06 GTO and a 06 EVO9. Love both cars for different reasons. The GTO is awesome in its on respect with 400hp of raw power on demand straight line performance is insane. The EVO9, if you dont launch perfect and the GTO has a decent launch, the EVO9 wont catch the GTO at all if both cars are stock. Just wont happen. Even if the EVO9 has a perfect launch, the GTO will walk it down slowly. That is if both cars are stock. Like mine

Beautiful FD

For some light modding; Flash & TBE - go with the IX

Had a pretty well modded VIII (cams etc.)- 335whp. Sold it, bought the IX with Flash and TBE - 348whp/348lb-ft; HUGE Difference

to the GTO

The JDM version has Yaw control, which makes for quite a big improvement in handling.
