Eclipse are good, and I've had good experience with Alpine.

Are you going separate amp or using the internal amp on the CD player?
If you are going separate amp then Eclipse is usually the best because of
its high preamp voltage and clear signal. Alpine has a lower preamp voltage
but has more bells/whistles if you are into that sort of thing. If you are planning
to run with the internal amp of the CD player itself, I would buy a unit with the highest RMS voltage output. Panasonic has the digital tripath chip that allows
60rms per channel.

I agree. I need sub control for sure. I have an amp for the subs, but not for the interior speakers. So yes I am using the head unit to power my interior speakers.

What Alpine do you guys think is best?

I would go eclipse if i had a 4/5 channel amp for the interior speakers. There just is not enough power coming out of eclipse head decks.

I got a kenwood , with the the Ipod hookup. Sounds real good I'm very happy with it. Plus the Ipod interface is sick. 300 for headunit and Ipod interface at crutchfield.

Lil'evo - Rule of thumb is if you want clear loud distortion free sound that you will need plenty of per channel power. If you keep the stock speakers, any headunit will do. If you go with aftermarket speakers you will need power and frankly most stock headunits don't provide enough. The evo is a pretty loud car so volume is important. My stock headunit puts out 22 watts rms per channel and in my opinion it was better than stock but insufficient because of the loudness of our car. I eventually went to a separate amp just for the fronts.

Like I said, the panasonic I think puts out 60rms with its internal digital tripath
chip amp and it has some neat faceplate features also.

If you already are going to put an amp in for the subs, then might as well put an amp in for the fronts as well since you have to wire anyways.
