new evo today

the dealership called me the other day and asked me if i wanted a new evo because of the problems i have had. has anybody else gone through this before? i think its awesome because they are taking off 13000 miles but the bad thing is i had to strip all of my stuff on it, it took about 6 or 7 hours. the reason they are taking it back is because it blows freeze plugs out like every 3000 miles. has anybody experienced this problem before.

Currently on my 05 Evo I have blown one freeze plug. I thought it may have been cause I turned up the boost to about 22.5-23 psi. I've temporarily just got a rubber plug in there holding strong at 20 psi but as soon as I turn it on 22 psi it wants to come out, I'm very interested as in what Mitsu had to say about this cause everyone I've asked around here anyways has never heard of that, but I've never actually taken back to the dealership because of all my parts I didn't really want to have to remove them... How much boost do u run? What did they determine the problem was? Also on mine it was the freeze plug on the back of the block next to the alternator, which was it for you?

Thanx

a plug that is in the block, that pops out if the coolant freezes.. letting the coolant expand out of there and not cracking the block..

On the side of the engine there are these caps, one per cylinder if Im correct. The are called freeze plugs. Take the new car man.

I've had a 03 with 2,600 miles with a blown freeze plug in the shop that I work at. I didn't think it was a common thing.

It's like a brass plug on the back of the engine block that holds coolant in the block. In the Evo I think there are about 9 total in different spots on the block that are 35mm plugs. Very annoying and aggravating to install because of the tight places they are in.

mine popped out of the waterpump housing when i was on the rev limiter. my car is modded so i just ended up cleaning up the area and putting some jb weld on it and popped it back in(this is what all the dsm guys do). i was told i had a blown head gasket and to check the coolant overflow for oil and slime in there, but it never appeared. just monitor your overflow, but i would go for the new ride myself.

i was running my evo at about 20 to 23 pounds. after the third time my freeze plug came out (which was by the alternator as well) i started running it at 20 and no more. for some reason it only happned when i was at about 4000 or 5000 rpms never at redline like nickracer9. they never could explain why it happened either. oh well now instead of a black one i have the silver. it stays cleaner a lot longer
