The direct connection to the battery is an added headache but once it's done, it's done. I used it with the stock speakers and did not have a problem blowing them, but my choice of music and the levels I play it are not the same as other ppl's. I actually like the HU a lot and I'm thinking about installing it in my MR, the only thing that keeps me from doing it is the thief attraction factor.... I don't want anything showing in my car that would tempt a break-in

Again, I find it so humorous how concerned people are with what others spend their money on.
Yeah my exhaust works perfectly fine but like warrtalon posted previously it is a race car and that is what you do to a race car you take weight off, add horsepower, and torque, just my 2 cents, and was only trying to help another evo owner out.

Levels is definitely the key there. OP was complaining about not enough power. I've really liked almost every Alpine deck. One of the best companies for HUs.

I have to comment on this... You're driving an MR and are afraid of attracting theives with a HU? You've already attracted them. Your turbo is worth a lot more than any deck. Hell, you're intake is too and they don't even have to steal the car to get that. Besides it has a detachable faceplate, what's there to steal? It'd be hard to talk me out of enjoying that deck.

The most common (and annoying, frustrating, expensive, etc.) thing that happens is that some crack head or some other kind of punk gets in the parking lot of my building and looks inside the parked cars. If they see anything that looks like they can sell for a few bucks, they'll smash a window and rip off whatever they see. These ppl are not pros or car thieves. They don't want to bother with removing turbos, engine parts, or even tires/wheels. They just want to steal whatever you left in the car or the HUs. The aftermarket radios seem to be the only thing that they'll work to steal (usually their work consists of f@cking up your dash as they rip out the radio or parts of it

If they see a radio with the faceplate off, they will break the glass to hunt for the faceplate which a lot of ppl leave in the glove box or under the seat.... Sure, if you take out the faceplate, maybe they wont mess up your dash ripping out the HU, but they already busted your window .... Anyway, don't tempt these a$$holes with anything of value....

Your car is what you make it. The Evo was never meant to be a drag racer, but that doesn't stop you guys from doing everything you can to hit 10's in it. Him wanting to turn his "race car" into a A/V masterpiece is no different.

And again, I don't get the logic behind why people are so concerned with how everyone else spends their money or what they do to their cars...

Uh, no. These forums are to gather information, make YOUR decision based on that information, and to receive advice when asked. Not to call people dumba$$es becasue they want to spend $200 bucks on a BOV for sound. Case in point:

Where, in that plea for advice, does he ask if he is making a smart choice or if he is wasting his money? HINT: NOWHERE.

Fact is nobody cares what you, Warrtalon, or any of the other e-CPA's running around here, think about what we spend our money on. We ask for community advice on things WE want to do, not what the community at large thinks we should do or how we should spend our money.

And dont take this as a personal attack. I'm more frustrated with the bandwagon Warrtalon-ers that jump peoples $#!+ for every "stupid" post than the influx of "stupid" posts that have shown up lately.

I installed a Panasonic CQ-DFX983U head unit. It helps with overall output. I've really enjoyed it so far. It has some nice output. Clean mids. Bass is surprisingly good. I really like the Sirius radio - too many daily miles to go without it. Best part was the price!

Go with something like that for a while until you get the set up you're really looking for.

How bout you just get off the forums if you dont care what anyone thinks, people get on here for advice and you are trying to ruin this. Sometime you should take time out of your busy schedule and read some of the things that Warrtalon has posted, he is one of the more educated people on here trying to help us that are not as educated out. So listen to him and stop trying to ruin the threads.

A new Alpine 9843 is only $170, has MP3 playback and is only 45Wx4 peak, probably safe for the speakers. RMS in the low to mid 20s means around half to three quarters you'll move the stock speakers well.

Also I recommend not going over 800W - 1000W RMS amp & sub.
OK, here is the latest. I called around and asked several installers about installing the Alpine in my MR.... One of them said "I have one just like it (the Alpine) and you don't have to go to the battery if you upgrade the fuse in the factory wire. I had some doubts but he said he has his connected like that with no problems. I took it there and they installed it for $40... I also went and got me a 60 gig iPod and ordered an adapter to hook it up to the Alpine . Now I will be able to play any of my several thousands of songs in my car without carrying as much as one CD
I think that I will also upgrade the front speakers with a mid level component set of 6.5" spekers, separate tweeters and crossover. I'll also have an alarm installed in the car. Those guys are also willing to put the little red condoms on the gauge lights and possibly over the heat/AC bulbs to make the lights all match the dashboard ..... Now those are some mods that are definitely easy to live with, do not screw up the driveability and probably wont affect the warranty as far as the engine, tranny, brakes, etc. are concerned. I'll post pictures and an update as things progress.

warrtalon and 05silverevo, the point is there is already a FACTORY sound system in my car that sucks. hence, HELP WHAT DO I DO TO MAKE IT BETTER. why do you mod your car if you not to make it better? no exception for stereo punk.

anyways thanks for the other guys helping me out, i do like the pioneer and hte alpine in dash screen. would that make the car sound a little better? and for the sub that comes mounted in the back, i can just replace that right?like swamp subs? it's already nice and secure so i don't want like a huge box with two subs back there.
p.s. why don't you go buy an eclipse

dude, for the best sound you are going to have to replace all the speakers.. you need to check the impendance of the stockies if you are going to reuse them.. alot of times, stock speakers run at off the wall impendances like 8ohm or something... won't be as loud or as clean as say a 4ohm pair of aftermarkets. thing is, the factory system components are usually designed to work well together while being cheap to mass produce. When you take one thing out of this balance, it can throw things out of wack...

P.S. use the edit button.

You can mod your car anyway you want to. It's your car, your time, your money, etc. The stock HU and speakers are not too bad all things considered. However, if you really want a better sound, you'll have to go to a more powerful HU with pre-amp outputs as well as separate amps to drive your upgraded speakers.

I don't know about the "sub that comes mounted in back". My EVOs did not have that..... Both, my '03 EVO VIII and my '05 MR have 6 speakers. 2 tweeters in the windshield posts, 2 speakers in the front doors, and 2 speakers in the rear shelf. There is no subwoofer in my EVO.... I think if you want one, you'll probably have to add one or more of those as well as their respective amplifier(s). Oh yeah, while you are at it, you'd best add a ton of sound deadening stuff because the EVO is a loud car.... Not the best vehicle for a great sound system.
