Honestly, how bad is the paint?

There is no paint protection system from Mitsubishi. Each dealer may try to sell a paint sealant/protection package on their own. Some people automatically assume every add on is a scam, ever without looking at the fine print or having any experience. YMMV.
under 2000 miles and already a bunch of paint chips on mine. it seems like the paint is too hard = easy to chip...
My ae86's hood looks better than my Evo

my paint is horrible...2003 BBY.
my hood looks like hit was hit with an automatic BB gun. my mirrors and front bumper are completely faded.
I am putting my car away for the winter and I will be re-painting the car in the summer.

before my evo i had a bmw m3 e36 and it was red as my car is now all i can say is that both cars are very delicate when you talk about the paint!!! they both chipped and scratch very easy if you want a car that doesnt show all of its defects buy a silver or a white color also try not drive close to others this gives you the chips!!! and wax it frecuently with caranuba wax!!!

You can go to just about any car forum and there are owners *****ing about their paint quality. 350Z and G35 it's quite prevalent. Hell, everywhere. These aren't BMWs or Mercedes, you get what you pay for. Deal with it.
BTW, I recall reading that due to some environmental regs about a decade ago they had to change the chemical compositions of most auto paints which has resulted in overall decreased paint quality throughout the industry.

I thought the EVO paint would be no good, so I got apex silver cuz you can't really see chips and such (cuz the aluminum is silver under the paint), but I haven't gotten any chips (12K miles). On my Subaru (04 WRX), the paint had 2-4 big chips and over 30 little chips by 4K miles. So in my opionon the mitsu paint isn't all that bad (better then subaru paint). ohh ya, The WRX was red.
