How to shrink a pic?
Alright guys:
I'm not a noob, but never posted pics. I searched and found out how to post a pic, but it's telling me that my pic is to large to upload. On my digital camera, i made the size the smallest possible (640 X480).
It says my file is 114 kb and the max to upload is 110 kb (something along those lines). So, how do i shrink if my camera is already at the smallest possible size? Thanks

Most people use a program like Photoshop, but it seems like you're not a multimedia guy, so buying the program for $400 wouldn't be worth it for you.
A great FREE program I recommend is IrFanView. It's a small program with a bunch of awesome features. I use it over Photoshop sometimes because you can batch resize/resample images so quickly and easily. You can also install a plugin for lossless rotation.
Yes, everytime you rotate a JPEG image, you are losing quality because the program actually opens the image, rotates it, and then saves it again. Each time you save in JPEG, you image is recompressed. Anyhow, here's the link.

If you have Windows XP, then I highly recommend a little 'add-on' called image resizer from Microsoft. It's one of many little 'add-ons' offered by Microsoft as part of their PowerToys package. It's all free.

IMHO, it's the simplest quickest way to resize any picture. Just select your picture (or multiple), right click, choose 'Resize Pictures', choose the resolution dimension (size will be smaller), and it will save a resized copy.

Cropping is cutting out a portion of an existing image at a designated size. That's what you want to do. Everyone's avatar looks crisp because they cropped a clear portion of an existing image rather than shrink an entire normal size image.
Use an image editing software. I use photoshop. Pretty much any image editing software will let you resize. go to download.com and download a free one. If you have photoshop its simple just go to Image -> Image Size and type in the size. Make sure you save for web and save it as a jpg to make it smaller. But any editing software will work. That or just use a different site to upload your image :P
