AWD Torque distribution of EVO vs STI
First off im new and wanna say Hi. Im a car enthusiast and appreciate all cars. Im lookin to get a new car for track use and have many many questions...considering theres so many cars to choose from these days. So ill jump right into my first inquiry. I want to get some feedback about the torque distribution of the evo vs the sti. Ideally id like to hear from guys who have experience with this on the track. Unless this has changed, (like for evo ix) or theres a way to tune this, ive read:
1. "The evo never sends the majority of engine torque to the rear axle. Instead, it can send all the engine torque to the front wheels or 50 percent of it (using an electrohydraulic clutch on the center diff). So the Evo varies the front-to-rear torque split between 100/0 and 50/50."
2. Whereas the sti, "varies the torque split between 50/50 and 35/65. The driver can also manually select the torque split via a center-console switch."
So what can u guys tell me about this? Has this changed for the evo ix? If not, is this something that can be easily tuned...or is it a simple mod that i was unsuccessful finding info about?...etc...

i think the evo is 50/50 all the time and never varies, but i could be wrong
as for the sti's its always 35/65. the swtich is not for controlling the torque distribution. its kinda complicated, but they says its the probability that the rear wheels get 65% of the power or the front wheels get 35% of the power. i never really got it, but i can assure u that knob is not for controlling the torque distribution
the cool thing about the sti's is that they can get it to lock mode, so the front and rear wheels run like they are on a spool.

1. Willie, are u sure about the 06 sti being 49/51 now. If so, can u post the link where u read this.

my bro did a lot of research on this, and most of the info he got was off the nasioc.com.

Man I can tell you that the evo's 50:50 and the Sti's 35:65 while the 06 Sti is about 41:59. All are front to rear. You can believe me or check out:

Looks like the ACD system distributes torque up to 2000Nm. I would think it would be stronger in the snow setting. It looks like what it does is just tighten up the 50/50 split progressivly between the 3 modes. Thanks for the link, it was good reading and I have not seen that before. Definitley helps get a better understanding of the ACD system which basicly just compliments an already excellent 4wd system.
