Good luck with your EVO. I got mines almost a month ago. It is a FAST car. Also it handles. It's going to be tough to not mod the EVO. There is so much you can do to it. If anything enjoy the ride.

the transfer case SHOULD be done this often, ask John at TRE, he HIGHLY reccomends you change the TC often! I don t know if the Trans is as important as the TC.

You should not mod right away, otherwise you will get bored of the car real quick. Get used to the car first learn its limits first. Then mod.

I waited about a year to start modding. Granted many people aren't patient, but you wont get bored of the car so easily, plus your car wont end up being a money pit. I plan to do major modification every year. Last year I got flash and TBE and in 2006 I will be getting my ZEALS Function X

Ohhh, great words of advice evo637. I just can't help but want to work on the car. The itch on my back for quite some time since my previous car, a '98 M3 wasn't where I wanted to be interms of moddability. It was just too clean a car to mess around with. Anyways, with the Evo it's a whole 'nother story. Thanks for the info about the oil, tranny, and TC fluids. I'll look into those more.

Heh all, John here. I bought my Evo last June, my 20 year old son bought a 03 at the same time. He later opted to trade it in because of a blown clutch and the need for new brakes. He got on 05 w/ 100 miles on it and it has been nothing but trouble. Anyway I have a 05 VIII and do not want to do anything that will void the warrantee. Although I’ve been think of putting on a down pipe 2 ½ piping all the way down. Will this an any way put my warrantee in jeopardy? By the by, I live in Albuquerque. If there are any other Duke City people out there send a plug.

Just an update. Bad news guys , I already have purchased tons of stuff, lol. The goal of my setup to retain as many stock parts on the car as possible and tune them to the max while still maintaining a relative 'stock from factory' stance. Here's the list:

OBD2 Scanner (ISO)
Mitsu Radio Relocation Kit
Perrin Short Antenna
Blitz BLM Gauges (Oil Temp/Pressure & Water Temp)
PLX R-500
Car Alarm w/ TT Function
Carbon Fiber Vortex Generator
Carbon Fiber Radio/AC Console

The R-500 will be used to its full extent. By that I mean I will use most, if not all, of the monitors that it provides including Boost, EGT, WB AFR, TPS, G-Force, and probably a few others I missed. The PLX makes sense in my case since I'm starting from scratch and have no gauges installed so might as well save money on some of the ones I would need to get anyways and still get a WB O2 controller in the process. All these "reliability" mods are to ready myself for the wave of standalone and piggyback ecu's that will released for the IX in the coming months. I want to be ready to tune from the get go!

Next course of action is to decide on either an MBC or EBC and quick. I want to use the boost sensor from either of these devices to hook hook up the R-500 so that I can monitor the boost, which in a stock car is the most important reading to me. Any suggestions on which device?

Also installed 450w inverter, fm modulator, and powerstrip under the passengers seat to power my sony laptop which will be running PLX Datalogger, DigiMoto (OBD) among other programs to entertain myself and guests. Have to fab up a laptop stand for the car which shouldn't be to bad. Next weekend is going to be busy! And I'm sure somebody will post the "TTISWP" smilie so I'll be sure to take pics and post them up when the aforemention install is done.

Yeah! Hard to resist the mod bug, I have Evo IX MR and she's been with me for almost two months with 1200 miles on her. I only drive her on a weekend. I already mode some stuff on her. All the mods I put on her came from Works

Works HF drop-in filter
Works Exhale O2
Works Exhale DP
Works StealthWork Performance Cat
Works Exhale IP
Works Exhale ABM Exhaust
Pivot Bit-X Turbo Timer

Purchased up in Huntington Beach. Loving every second I spend with this Black Labrador Pearl beauty. Has 1300 miles now on it.

Couple concerns. Do you guys flush your break-in oil after 600 miles? Also, anybody know where I can find info on where to start concerning modding an Evo IX? With certains parts being different from the VIII, I didn't want to purchase any items that won't fit properly.
haha good luck not modding. I started at 1000 miles and look at me now.

Small update. I've decided to not go the PLX R-500 route for the time being. Priced to sell. Message me if interested.
