Lol! I suspect the poor braking power of the 02-05 models as part of the culprit. (Aside from testosterone and lack of experience) Mine made it through 2 years unscathed before upgrading to an evo.

If I don't get an Evo and end up getting an RSX or a tc, I will be labeled as a "boy racer" and those people get on my nerves lol. With an Evo, I own a legendary rally machine with a long history for beating cars that cost three times as much. Then again, I'm scared of that beast cuz what if I let it get ahead of me and I crash? Ima start off with a fairly fast car at first but I will be getting the Evo IX ASAP.

NVM retract my statement, just because people will call you boy ricer doesn't mean you gotta prove a point to buy a car x3 as much money because its been in the rally world w.e . Buy a civic live and learn it. Just suck it up and buy a different car, for ****s sake buy an Integra type R thats a great car to learn on.

I know the forum rules say no flaming, so I won't. BUT, you have to be realistic. Owning something as hardcore as an Evo for your first car is just a bad idea. It's not just Payments and upkeep, but eventually your parents aren't going to be paying for your insurance. (On an evo it's going to SUCK). Not only that, but a kid at 16 years old shouldn't be driving something that fast... I KNOW! I crashed some fast cars in my day when I was new to driving, and I now know it's just a bad idea to give a teenager something that fast. You're bound to do something really stupid in it, and you know it.

As for dreams? Sure! If you can swing it without killing yourself, all the power to you. But maybe you should think a little down the road, and you'll probably find that this isn't the best of choices.

I dunno but MuslimEvoFreak is 17 and he got an Evo but I know sometimes he can be naive becuase he he posted earlier about his being keyed and he wanted to knock the guy out.. But anyways he told me that he workd at Tavo Bell and his parents pay for the insurance and all.But Im not sure if the Evo is under his name.

Jesus.. My brother's friend wants to buy an Evo IX MR with his $9.00 hr part time job. I told him the same thing am gonna tell you........... "lay off the crack!"

Evo is not a toy car that you can get just because mommy and daddy will be co-signing. It is an expencive machine for mature people. You WILL want to mod the car no matter what you say. That will cost you $$. Be realistic. save $$ get something cheap.

Wow, I cannot believe there are people in this thread encouraging a 14y/o to buy an evo, a 14y/o!!!. Damn, what has evoM come to?

This kid reminds of my little brother who is 15 and is hellbent on getting an evo, I had to argue with my mother how it is one of the most stupidest idea to do. Fact is, all he want to do is race it and I have no doubt in my mind this 14y/o want to race it aswell. Think about, 14y/o with a IX, you would be the coolest guy in your highschool and all the other 9th graders would want to be your best friend. No 14y/o want an evo for it's interior or high spoiler. If the evo did not come with a turbo or awd, do you think this kid would still want it?

To the kid, I don't care if it's your 'hopes and dreams', reality needs to fall on you and realize at this point in time, the evo is not for you. Buy a civic and run that to the ground for the next 4-5years, than comeback with a used IX.

I can't see anything but people discouraging him from buying it. We're pretty much all telling him..

"You'll shoot your eye out, kid!"

If it didnt come with a turbo or awd then thats where the original lancer comes in 0.01% that he would want one. He needs speed @ 14 yrs old huh?

Yo, just get a civic with a b18c as your first car and learn on that. That car will be a blast, and a good learning experience for you. All of my cars before my evo were slow hatches, and I learned a lot from driving them, because I ran all of them into the ground. I think it paved the way for me being able to drive the evo now. Trust me, you don't have to own an evo to have mad fun driving. It doesn't have to be fast to be fun. And maybe when you can get a slow car to go fast through driving experience, then maybe you'll be ready for the evo. Hell, the first time I drove it I almost crapped myself, that's how crazy this car is. To tell you the truth I had never driven anything like it, but I can keep it under control because I've been driving for 8+ years.

Plus, if you just pick up a civic, you'll have extra money to take your girl out, and buy beer, and do whatever else you want with it. Plus you won't have as many cops breathing down your neck because they see a young kid in a sports car. IMO I think that would be the worst part for you right there, or close to it at least.

Anyway, I rant. Plus I see you have decided not to get one anyway. What do you think you will get instead?

Naw, I wasn't thinking of racing it if I got it, and I'm planning to keep it stock but I was just going to put a body kit, a few gauges, and Jdm tail lamps...But anyways, I'm gonna learn some driving dynamics before I get the Evo, so I could at least control it.

I can't even fathom this at $7/hour parttime. I'm trying to do the math here.

26hrs/wk x $7 = $182 x4 = $728/month
now the gov't will take around 20% right off the top = $582 left.

won't touch an evo 9gsr for under 30k after tax and he has 10k down = 20k financed at 6% over 5 years = $330/month.

That leaves $250 to spend. assuming the kid doesn't drive much and keeps with the national average, we'll assume 1000 miles a month at 20mpg(conservative) = 50 gallons of gas at $2.75 average for the year = $137/month.

This only leaves him $113 a month for anything else, assuming the car lot has 26 hrs worth of work, doesn't call in, take days off, etc...

Then lets look at new tires once a year for $500(cheap), 4 oil changes, and for the sake of arguements, one set of pads at $150. that comes to $890 a year, but we'll save each month, so that's another $74 each month for maintenance, leaving this kid $39 leftover.

I can see him on his date on saturday night now...
"sorry babe, I don't have enough to get into the movie, but we can sit in the backseat of my evo. sorry we can't leave my parents driveway, but I don't have any gas either"

Lets not even think what happens at 18 as he tries to move out, with 3 years left on the loan, and parents decide he needs to pay for insurance as well.

I can REALLY appreciate the drive and desire to get a car like this, and think it's awesome that he wants it so bad, but I agree with most of this thread..buy a 1/2g if you desire the 4g63 motor and wait until your out of college with a good job before making this kind of commitment. you won't be sorry when you're 30 looking back on it, and by then, something else will be out that will be badder than the evo and you'll be in the position to have it...
or if you just have to have an evo, buy an 8. by the time you are ready the 03's will be over 5 years old. should be able to pick up one for under 15k. look at all the 1/2g's in great condition still running around.... evo 8's will be the same..

good luck and keep working toward a car, but remember to enjoy being young and in high school. you have the rest of your life to work for a car.
