black oil?
black oil?
I got my oil changed after 2500 miles and my oil was straight black and a quart low, ii checked it yesterday witht the new oil and it was basically black again. i thought it was from being to rich cause i have a aem shortram, bov and mbc, so i got my flash. well i thought it would lean it out but for some reason my oil is still black after like 2 to 3 days. i also installed a walbro fuel pump. so do you guys think its running rich from my aem shortram? I have an o5 so is it alright to run the shortram on it?
I was concerned the first time I changed my oil and it was black. Then my freind told me to relax and that it was normal for full synthetic oil to turn black like that under the heat. He said every time he changes the oil in his TT 3rd gen RX7 the oil is completely black and it was the same in his '01 Prelude because he ran full synthetic. Not saying this is fact, but just my experience.
the intake shouldnt make a difference from an 03-05. Tunes/flashes are highly recommended with intakes though. A bit off topic but just a thought. I really doubt the intake has anything to do with your oil being black.

Heat is going to cause that. Running leaner causes more heat in the combustion chamber than running richer. So no, a tune won't cure that and an intake won't cause it. My stock 03 Evo had black oil at that mileage interval.
I just did my first oil change at 2800 miles and the oil was jet black also. That is expected with a new engine and due to the fact that the car is turbocharged. My Audi was the same way.
Now if there were metal shavings in your oil, then i'd be concerned.

One thing that kinda is unclear to me... I 've changed oil on many different cars N/A and Turbocharged, even light nitrous cars. These cars (my current car the exception) all had what I'd reffer to as a very dark amber oil color, maybe at worst light molasses. Definitely not black though. My current car's oil (turbo) definitely turns black, to the point where i take a few drops to test on a white paper towel, and as it soaks in it leaves behind a dark grey ash like deposit. Now this is at about 2000 mi. after oil change, and I have horrible leak down on two cylinders from the rings. Now, that is cause for alarm, but I am the posterboy for rutine maintenence, and a glutten for having my car break down in very catastrophic and inconvenient ways!
oh yeah 101,000 mi. on the odometer....
