Is this a dumb idea?

Well I have decided on going with the 05 RS for the sake of reliability. Now I was thinking of leaving it stock mechanically and going with some appearence mods to start, it will stay that way for a while because I just lack the funds to do everything I want to do right away. I was thinking of some evodave headlights, and evo VII tails, maybe a ralliart lip, painted and powder coated stockers and some tint. I have yet to decide about the mechanical modification part because I want to do all I can to preserve the cars life... I don't plan on being grandpa with it though. So many people just simply say that the cars reliability is greatly pushed over for the sake of the all mighty mod. Am I dumb for doing the cosmetic mods and leaving the car stock for a while? Or should I take that cash and get the Buschur S1 kit? Is that kit a big difference above stock?

nah, not dumb, but remember that any mods actually devaluate your car...cuz its your taste not someone elses.
Would you want to buy a car thats been modded or one thats completely stock?

I'll answer the only question that is not 100% personal preferance.

If you don't know if the Buschur S1 is a huge difference over stock, then I suggest sticking with mods that make you look fast rather than actually making you fast.

Part of me actually wants to leave the car stock, I may sound crazy but besides maybe a turbo back and a bov I almost want to leave it stock for good and just do all I can to keep it as it is. I am positive I will fall in love with the car and down the road I almost feel as if these cars in stock form would be VERY hard to come by. I may say this now but I don't think I ever want to give the car up once I have it, and besides cosmetics that can be changed back to stock, it won't hurt the car in any way shape or form. The only fear I have is getting too used to the power, then the car becomes slow. I don't really have the money for uber mods anyways I was thinking about those small things because they don't break the bank but they do make a very big difference in appearence. It's like an older Ferrari or something that has been taken care of. This is no Honda Accord, the EVO won't ever be forgotten and I think it will always have a spot on ANY top 10, 30, 100 or whatever car list of all time... so why not have a clean copy of one.

No, not a dumb idea. I plan I leaving my IX stock for a while (only gonna change the springs). I want to buy a house soon, and that is one of the reasons i bought a new car, is for the reliablity and warranty.

I think it is safe to say that you can mildly mod the car and not hurt it's longevity by any appreciable amount. Something like a full exhaust, and a custom tune should not take a significant amount of life off the engine. If anything it may help extend the lifespan of the motor by cutting back on the dillution of the oil from the inherently rich factory tune.

so a Buschur S1 is a safe bet? How about Buschur S0? The site clearly states it's for people who do not plan on modding any further than Buschur S0... I think I'd rather have a TBE than the Buschur S0 Axle back.

Actually, here is link. http://www.buschurracing.com/stage0.htm

It says that there 04 RS made 287whp and 294.5 ft lbs. Is this indeed real world wheel horse power? I mean the stock EVO puts down 230-240 to the wheels... over 40 WHP WITH $995! Is that right? I knew they responded to mods well but DAMN! and hell, Buschur S1 makes 315whp! Thats 75whp above stock with $1350... um that's crazy or is it exagerated.

Just do the Warrtalon package and be done. Your car will run perfectly smooth with no problems and you won't need to add anything else in the future. Just a daily-driven 300whp/300wtq Evo on pump gas with no issues and perfect drivability.

That was on a 2wd Dynojet, so the numbers were a bit different.

I'd buy the car first and then worry about the rest, but that's just me. Oh wait...I should've noticed the thread starter's name
