pre-evo owner questions ^^;

Hi, I'm going to buy a evo this month, rai now I have 2 options. My friend's buddy want to sell his evo viii to me with $24000, (2003, 22000 miles, MR upgrade with a very good $2000 suspension) and my family suggest me to buy a brand new evo ix which gonna cost about $34000 (include tax, doc fee, 20 oil changes etc.)

Which option should I choose? the new car's warranty is really attractive (10 yrs 10000 miles powertrain, 6 yrs bumper to bumper). For the old car, I really afraid it'll have lot small problems that I need to spend much more $ on, because I heard Mitsubishi cars have bad reliabilitys, like the engine and transmission. also do you think evo ix really worth $10,000 more?

thanks for any opinions.

$24,000.00 sounds kinda high, you can find $22k or less easy. If you can afford new, then buy new...otherwise you just gotta find the best deal you can.
Don't buy new for the warranty though...ROFL!!!

1) What is "rai"?
2) There is no such thing as a 2003 with MR upgrade. The guy may have upgraded some things on his own, but it's not a Mitsu upgrade, so it doesn't make the car mor valuable.
3) What do you mean by "20 oil changes" ????
4) You're asking us if 3 years of depreciation is worth 10k when you'd be getting a brand new IX that is way faster with way more features than a used 03...
5) The warranty looks good on paper, but Mitsu usually doesn't honor it.

I'd say go for the new Evo IX MR. The IX MR is less likely to have problems, and it has more mod potential than the VIII. Plus, its great having a new car. I think that if I had bought a used, modded Evo, I'd be worried about every little odd noise meaning something is going wrong with the car.

Brand new all the WAY. The IX is way ahead of an 03 in every way. I have a friend with an 03 and yes there are a lot of 'little' issues with it that would suck if u spent 20 some grand on it.

thanks a lot for all of your opinions. I'm going to Mitsubishi dealer tomorrow morning and try to get a better price than last time.
Last Tuesday the price dealer gave me is $34500 for drive the car out of store. That price include 6% tax which is about $1900 I think; 20 mortor oil change; and $399 docment fee (I pay cash). So do you guys think is that a reasonable price for EVO IX?

For the Evo IX are you looking at a Sun Sound and Leather package? Why is the price so high? You can get a standard Evo IX GSR for 29k + Tax out here. So roughly 31.5k out the door. (With our higher tax rate)

I'd opt for a new IX myself vs a used VIII for peace of mind. You also get a lot more performance features.
