clutch......

ok so i bought an Evo IX in january and when i had m front tag mounting bracket put on they told me that the clutch in my car is ganna go up aound 3000 miles because it is the clutch out of the tsi's and gsx's and its not rated at the power that they put out and that they have had to replace the clutch in every evo they have sold.... well 5000 comes around and it starts slipping a little bit... and they tell me that they r voiding my warranty due to racing... when it went in for the clutch the brakes were makin a noise to they did since they day i bought them and they sed because my breaks were chewed up some and the clutch is messed up they r voiding the warranty due to racing... has any1 been through any issues with the dealer about these things or have any suggestions.... please place ur input....

I have never heard that the clutch is not rated for the power output of the engine. However the clutches in the Evos leave much to be desired. My theory is that the clutch is engineered to be the weak link so that it wears out instead of breaking the tranny or transfer case. Bear in mind, Mitsubishi's reason for building the Evo is the same reason they build+sell the Lancer, Outlander, etc...to make money. They can not make money if kids buy the Evo and break it 9 times while it's under warranty. So they engineered in a contigency...a weak clutch.

If you drive the car like it's a Lincoln Towncar, then you will most likely NEVER have a clutch problem. If you drive the car like you're Tommi Makinen, then you will be putting a clutch in the car before 10k miles.

If you DO end up replacing the clutch... do it right the first time and drop in the Exedy Twin disc... I did and I friggen love it.

I have a clutchmaster stage 3, I got it installed like 3 weeks ago, It feels really harsh at times when it engages, pedal feel though is just like stock, I cant feel the difference. I took it to the track and you can definitely feel it engages way harder than the stock clutch, I dont know if thats bad or not though????
