As I've been able to gather from Google, a Miata battery weighs ~25lbs.

GSC mini battery kit with the high end PC680 metal jacket and STD terminals is the way to go. Battery is bulletproof. Can be run off a jump and charges fast with the alternator if you ever run out of juice.

The Odyssey 680MJT is what I've been using and it cranks like a charm. I wouldn't spend twice the money on a Braille for similar performance.

I had an Odyssey PC680 in my S14 and had some problems with it. It was completely drained once when the alternator ground come loose, and another when my ex decided to sit there bumping music for 40 mins. on acc. power once, so that may have shortened the lifespan and it's ability to hold a charge very well. I went to Batteries Plus and got a very cheap, generic smaller battery that was about the same weight, only very slightly bigger, performed better, and cost about $35.

It doesn't need to be a big brand name to work well.

Good to know Drew! thanks for posting that. Yeah Miata other small factory batteries are a better value than alot of the expensive "special" ones.

Here's a good overview of SLA batteries (and also shows that a Dynabatt battery is a relabeled Hawker):

That is completely false. Speak up if you have the real experience otherwise don't spread BS.

They are kind of weak if you let them seat for a few weeks and they are definately weak if you run many accesories but they don't die after a year.

Why couldn't you recharge it? I only had to do one quick charge once but it was because I use to leave the roof light on a few times.

You must recharge the battery with the criteria of the material that is made off(cell, regular, etc).

ive gone through two oddessy 680's now. the first lasted me almost 4 months. and the second lasted only one month. im not shure what the problem is as of right now.

as far as i know both batteries are dead though. no matter how long i drive around, as soon as i cut the power, i cant start the car back up. there isnt even enough power to use the keyless entry/lock.

i put the multimeter on one of the batteries and it read 10.9V. after i charged it for 70 minutes it was only putting out 11.3V.

im going to test all the fuses in ammeter tomorrow and see if there is a parasitic drain somewhere in the system. although i cant seem to understand where there would be one.

the only thing i am running is a pioneer head unit. im hoping thats not the problem. its hooked up to ignition power.

once all the fuses are checked out im going to call oddessy and see if they can say something or do something with the warranty/guarantee.
