Not impressed with my Evo IV....
Not impressed with my Evo IX....
Well, im past the break in point. Ive got over 800 miles on it and ive been opening it up. Ive got to say im not impressed with a couple of things. Im coming from an STI so im basing this off of my experience with that. The brakes feel very weak. Ive got to really get on the pedal before I can really get them to grab. My STI's brakes felt awsome. Would bite as hard as I wanted with little to no effort.
Im still having issues with the notchy tranny(feels like it wants to grind and clunk) and when i power shift or granny for that matter the engine continues to rev after ive let off the gas and clutched it for my shift???? Its like ive still got the gas pedal to the floor and im putting in the clutch even though ive let off complety for my shift? (I know how to shift so thats not the issue. been driving stick for years and like i said im coming from an STI and has no issues with it) Is this normal for evos? My dealer wouldnt let me test drive it so I never knew how they shifted under spirited driving.
Last but not least is the power. Its not there for me. The lag is worse and the power just isnt there. I know its a smaller motor and it makes less WHP then the STI but a head to head in stock form, my old STI felt like it would kill my stock IX. Ive read many posts of how they take to mods so im going to invest a couple grand into mine and I hope that does the trick. Any body chime in with any comments or suggestions since this is just my experience and Im very new to the evo......

i've had the same problem with the engine rev, but i blame that on my poor stick driving ability =p i've driven two evo viiis and i drove the ix today and the turbo lag is significantly reduced but maybe still worse than the sti. however i think you can remedy your disappointment with some minor mods
Its not buyers remorse, its really just not what i expected. Those things are so prominent and i was told they would get better after break in (shifting, breaks, motor) but im not very impressed. Do they get better with mods? How about the revving issue im having? Breaks i can deal with. Ill get new pads.

do a little search the car you bought will be a monster with very little money. there is no placement for displacement. 2.5 to a 2.0 you have to give a little to get a hole lot. In the end I think you will love the Evo alot more. if you need some ideas of what to do pm me as I am some what local to you. Dustin
I would hate to think i got a lemon but who knows. I did do lots of research and from what i read the Evo and STI were neck and neck in terms of performance. I know the differences but only from what i read. I never got to actualy physically drive one hard to feel how it responded and compared to the STI. There are not a lot of IX's around here and def coulnt test drive one hard. I even had to ship mine from South Coast
don't sti's have the same brembos? driving the evo takes practice.. my 8 also had the "stuck" throttle effect. i found that if i really concentrated on my shifting it woudn't do it much. btw does your only stick when you're really flying thru the gears.. that's when mine would do it... and only in 4th..
