SilverEvo8,

Nice Miata, mine was a 92 with the 1.6l. I love the handling but I hate the engine performance. I almost did a Greddy 15g turbokit for it but then I backed up.

I sold the car after only 3 months of having it. I miss the great gas milegae and the driving position(everything is handy) but the engine lacks of soul if you know what I mean.

You whp sounds healthy, did you have any flying miata package or any Jackson Racing S/C?

I know what you mean about the engine in those Miatas, specially the 1.6's. The trick is not to drive them below the powerband ... Actually they are quite peppy if you keep the revs up, but ppl just don't like to do that. I added a JRSC with a special blower... It was a R&D project back before Downing sold the supercharger to Jackson Racing... It has a finer pitch (more turns per inch of length. I'm also running about 8~9 psi.

I am about to get a Evo IX what is the first thing I should get. I am only going to have about 500-1000 to modify, and would like to be able to do it myself. Any suggestions?

Just a friendly suggestion. You should not sign up on a forum and just jump into the middle of a random thread that has nothing to do with your question, then ask a question that has been asked and answered a few thousand times. Slow down, read the rules posted at the top of EVERY forum, then heed what it says. The main rule for you is to always SEARCH before asking a question, and the second rule for you is not to hi-jack a thread.

Do your searching, get some ideas, make your own decisions, then if you still have a specific question, make a new thread in this Newbie forum and ask your question. Do not just ask "what mod should I get first." Read the other 1000 threads that asked that same question, then tell us what you find out.

As a bonus, my suggestion is to look at my signature for the best way to spend close to $1000 on a IX.

Had a question for you Evo-mantics
Is the MR a little quicker to 60mpg and in the 1/4 mile vs a regular Evo (not RS) ?
Trying to decide if the MR if worth it. Yes I know all the differences between the 2
but dont know if the MR is quicker with the 6sp and slightly different gear ratios.

I must say, being a older guy, I was very impressed with the steering, handling,
turbo thrust. This car is a real kick to drive. Of course if I buy one my neighbors
will ask if I bought it for one of my teenage sons. My wife wants me to buy a BMW
or Lexus, but I think the Evo is more my type being a engineer (something to tweak
and play with)

Thanks in advance
Regards
None of these bad boys get 60MPG. lol

I would say your best bet is to drive both of them. This coming from someone who has driven both, and decided to get a IX. I really wanted the MR, but I couldn't get used to the shifting. Knowing I couldn't get a short throw, I opted for the IX. I really didn't want the ssl, but the HID's were a must for me so I bought the IX with ssl and I love my decision. This forum was great for helping make my choice.
