Driving without plates

Hey whats up everybody,

I purchased a new Evo IX MR about four weeks from HB Mitsu. This car is the sh3t! Love it. Glad to be a member here with other enthusiats.

Just wondering how long anybody has run without their license plates from the dealer?I did receive mine but have been a little lazy putting them on. It just seems you could run all year without them and not have any trouble.

It is unlikely that you would be able to do that for a year and not have issues, why not just put the plates on?

My experience in both Oregon and CA is that cops will let it go. But if you get pulled over for something else they'll tack it on.

But it is an excuse for them to pull you over if they want. I think the front plate looks fine on an EVO....it's not like it totally makes the front look like crap like it does on the Z.

With the dealer plates you can whiz though bridge tolls that have Fast Trak/prepaid lanes without paying

My first Evo, I got it in February 2006 and didn't put EITHER of the plates on until September 2006... and that was my own personal choice to put them on. My second Evo, I got it in February 2007 and didn't put on the REAR plate until May but that was because I got a parking warning because in the community I lived in, I guess you were supposed to move your car at least once every 72 hours and the neighbor had complained, so the warning was for that and for not having plates, though the parking maid had looked up my license plate number through the VIN number and wrote it on the citation. But even now, I still only have the rear one on.

On any newer looking car you can easily go 6 months without plates, unless you live in a small town where your car will be noticed (evos stand out....). A friend of mine never paid his parking tickets when he never had plates and one day they towed him, because the meter person recognized the car lol

6-9 months no problem, when you do wanna put em on, leave the paper in the front window & only put on the rear plate, works great

that sounds like a very good idea! I'll do that after I'm done using the paper plates after a year or two

Around here when the cops see a car without plates they have it towed. Then you gotta pay for the tow, the storage and the fine. Plus, the wrecker will probably tow it on the back wheels and screw up your drivetrain.
